Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

This thread is similar to the Neil Peart thread a couple weeks ago. Some people cannot seem to separate taste and preference from talent and skill. I never owned a single Michael Jackson record/CD,...

Re: Find a Drum Teacher Here

Is there a teacher in St. Charles MO area that comes to the students house?

I would like a once a month lesson that focuses partly on technique and partly on helping me to be a better cover band...

Re: No rudiments taught in marching band?

There was not continuous and thorough focus on rudiments in my opinion because the teacher had to focus on the whole unit, band, orchestra, combo. In orchestra there were challenges to slot us in...

Re: What's your worst gig?

My very first public gig. It was outdoor private party with two bands. We used the other bands PA. I was part of the other band for a while and thought we were good friends and parted as such. But I...

Re: Different kit formats.

When I was younger i fussed over the placement of everything on my kit. Now I just don't think about it much. I use our bass players low end Tama for rehearsal that is quite different from my own at...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Personally I enjoy replicating to the best of my ability music I like listening to. But I also love playing songs I don't listen to when the band is able to play it well. One song I played years ago...

Re: Neil Peart

"But it's obvious that Neil, through his playing alone (or what we've all seen, anyway), has not come close to earning the kind of respect that those other drummers have worked for. Yet he commands...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

It started for me with my kindergarten teacher telling my mother I had natural rhythm. Simple ass that. I started lessons right after that at age 5. Then I saw Buddy Rich on television. Loved it from...

Re: Neil Peart

I think you might be complaining about non drummers proclaiming him the very best drummer. I did not hear that in here. Among the best is all I am ever willing to say about any drummer. It is simply...

Re: Snow in New England

Used to live in the north on the snow belt side of lake Erie so I know what a lot of snow is like. In some ways I miss snow in the winter. But enough is enough!

Re: Advice on traditional grip

"For me, it's as simple as holding a spoon differently when I'm stirring something with it versus when I'm eating with it. My left and right hands spend more time doing different things than playing...

Re: Advice on traditional grip

Wow AW. So maybe narrow minded is a better fit? Honestly you are coming off like you think you know it all. There are advantages and disadvantages to both grips. I learned traditional and am teaching...

Re: Neil Peart

I have been reading this thread off and on for a while. I seriously do not get the critique of drummers that are at the top of the music world such that among drummers we can identify them with one...

Re: end of guitar centre?

I really like to frequent locally owned businesses as much as possible. But I have had good experiences at the local GC at least so far. I went to a local music store here early on and was not...

Re: Mounting a Personal Mixer behind the Kit

I made a mixer stand that doubles as a box to put mic cables and mics in as well as the mixer for transport. I will admit it is pretty heavy so I plan to put some wheels on it.

While on stage it...

Re: Hearing protection?

I use a personal monitor that allows me to put my vocals through it before it goes to the board. I then take the monitor feed in so I personally have two channels and can turn my vocal up as needed....

Re: Bands and tempo arguments

To figure out as a band how you are doing with tempo, try recording your rehearsals and play it back as a group.

Re: Gigs that Require 1099 - Questions

Including a 1099 in Turbo Tax is not a big deal. It is just like another W2 with less data to input. If it were me and it were only a handful of gigs that work that way this is how I would do it.

Re: do i need a hi hat mic?

So I am no expert and am trying to figure out how to best mic my drums for live gigs. I play in a bar cover band and most places are not real large, but most are big enough that some micing is needed...
