Re: You know you're a drummer when...

No, believe me, I meant exactly what I said.

If your kit is worth $20k+ and your cars combined (second hand) cost no more than $18k, then yep, the drums are worth more :P

Re: Ever look back at videos of yourself playing and cringe?

If I watch my older stuff (basically anything up to around 12 years experience) I definitely shake my head and stop watching pretty quickly.

These days though, my playing has matured a lot,...

Re: You know you're a drummer when...

You have actually had your indicators click in time with a song playing on the stereo, noticed, and had your mind blown.

Re: Mapex Saturn Pro?

The Saturn Pro has always been a great kit. I was actually planning on getting one before I got offered a good deal on my Gretsch.

Mapex make quite reasonable hardware, so I doubt you'll have any...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

To anyone who thinks playing hard is about the amount of muscle you have... yeah, sorry, you're wrong.

Playing hard and loud is about your body movement and using your bodyweight, not your...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

Keller must be doing something right, because my USA Maple kit sounds amazing.

So does my Sleishman snare drum (jarrah stave)

Is it also too late to mention that Sonor have been making...

Re: Should I be upset? Would you be upset? Watch video. (Warning, big mistake in my playing)

Nah, I wouldn't be offended if my singer ever said that. Laugh it off dude, it's all in good fun!

With that said, there are many people who are precious little princesses and they would most...

Re: How to build up weaker hand?

Thanks Bill! That is very reassuring! I think the thing that spurred me on to force myself to retrain my body and learn to play French grip was watching death metal drummers and a couple of videos...

Re: How to build up weaker hand?

I had a similar deficit with my left hand for a VERY long time.

The most important part of my solution, as it turned out, was learning French grip. What this did was force me to redevelop my left...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

I think it's a great thing.

I've never been a fan of DW purely because I've always pictured them as - like Pearl and Tama - they're the overrated/overpriced brand that people only play because...

Re: Drummerworld inventors

Jim, that porthole/no porthole is brilliant! I love such elegant simplicity in solutions to things.

I've played around with trying to use timber to mount percussion, but it didn't really work out...

Re: Being in an X band, playing shows with crappy Y bands

I think the problem is that styles such as metal and punk generally gain popularity with teenagers, and if we're truly honest - not all teenagers are necessarily particularly good at their...

Re: Software to make drumless tracks

You can't do it, at least not in the sense you're thinking.

When a song is recorded, everything is recorded as a separate track, so you might have 10 tracks for the drums, 3 for guitars, 2 for...

Re: Thoughts on switching from upbeat to downbeat (thrash metal)

It's possible you're overthinking it...

The best way to figure out what you want to do is play the song and record it with and without reversing the beat. Or maybe change how you transition.

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a discussion on the internet be amiably resolved.

I think you just set another world record, dude :P

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

That video of you playing with your technique isn't credibility enough?

So what happens when your title is restored and nothing changes? You'll then be remembered as the guy who took legal action...

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

I actually saw Pete Drummond do something very similar using matched grip and the push-pull method several years ago. I think it would have been around 2005 or so. He did it at 200bpm which would...

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

All you've done here is prove me right about having a childish approach and attitude.

First off, I never called you names (please pay attention), I'm not talking smack (I'm telling you you're...

I'm sorry, but while I appreciate your situation, at this point you just sound like a child who has had his toys taken off him. Did it ever occur to you that Mangini or some of the others simply...

I actually played piano for a year when I was 8, didn't really start playing drums until I was 12. Two years ago I got back into playing piano, because I've always loved the instrument and my...

Re: ALBUMS THAT HAD AN LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR DRUMMING

Nah, it's because everyone tries to seek validation for their opinions, musician or not.

Re: ALBUMS THAT HAD AN LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR DRUMMING

Planet X - Live from OZ
On the Virg - Serious Young Insects
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Nile - Ithyphallic
Dave Weckl Band - Multiplicity

Definitely others, but these are probably the most...

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

It really does depend on the type of metal you're listening to.

As others have already stated, there are still plenty of drummers (including the fast guys in death metal and the like) who use the...
