Re: muffler question? I guess

Yeah, I have an Acrolite and a 400 Supra and removed the mufflers. On these and previously owned older snares. It's personal preference, but I wouldn't bother installing one either, unless you're...

Re: How to Practice Techniques so they are Useful

Find the rudiments and stickings that most require and exercise the movements, then apply those to the drum set. Also keeping this in mind when you practice coordination and independence stuff.

Re: seamlessly switching between singles and doubles around the kit

A little concerning to read the OP say "months of practice". Nothing comes easy, for most of us it's hours a day DISCIPLINED practice and years worth of toiling, just for small incremental...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

By the writers logic, professional athletes should be unpaid; play for free. I'm down with that.

Maybe then those sports scholarships could instead go to actual intellectual students deserving of...

Re: Ian Paice rocks!!!

Ian is rock drumming royalty for sure.

I bought "In Rock" on cassette tape when I was 12 and was mesmerized by Ian Paices drumming on "Flight of the Rat"; and I think listening over and over and...

Re: Ian Paice rocks!!!

I wouldn't go quite that far with "much better" because Simon Phillips Cozy Powell etc. were very fine drummers too, and could onto drummers such as Bonham and Barrie Barlow and some others......

Re: Brand new to drumming, resource help...

A few quick ones perfect for beginners, and I think Joe's are available to watch on youtube ( can't beat that!)

Steve Smith -History of the U.S. Beat
Joe Morello - natural approach to technique...

Re: The state of pop music

Sometimes I forget that "side" of music even exists. There is very very little worthwhile pop music because:

Pop music = pre-packaged, recycled music which corporations craft to "set the...

Re: How to play while you are totally tired and exhausted

my advice is a quick nap after work, as well as a little cardio exercise around 8-9pm for 10-15 minutes. Just wear yourself out a bit. You will probably have more energy by 11-12pm.

Re: Talking to the doctors now....

I doubt it is carrying drums around that is hurting your back or body. Yes that may be the end result, but what are you doing wrong that is causing you to have pain doing that?

50's Leedy WMP 20/16 with a matching 60's 13" Ludwig tom...for 26 years

And I recently bought a 6pc Pearl Export, in really nice shape for $200. Just to kick around and say I bought something :D

Re: How to improve speed and techniques

Yeah, speed is a function of control as well as technique. Since you have been playing for a while, I suggest checking out Jojo Mayer's "Secret Weapons 1" DVD; that, in combination with something...

Re: Jim Gordon

Those are great...also Tom Waits Heart of Saturday Night has some really fine, musical drumming...brush work and all. It took me by surprise a little.

Re: If you had to choose....

Both, there is no way for me to select either one. Vinnie has the monster chops, Gadd no slouch but obviously more of groove and feel stylings.

I choose Jim Gordon, though. His career was over...

I don't waste my time bidding on e-bay since it's basically anonymous and the other person, including the seller, could be using scripts or other hacks(as mentioned) to outbid you no matter what you...

Re: HELP! I need a good inexpensive snare fast!

There may be better ~$100 snare drums for rock, but I prefer the Acrolite all-around. It's great for jazz!

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Well, they tried to become more mainstream and "clean" sounding around the time of the black album...but honestly, I don't even bother talking about anything Metallica beyond 1990 or so, it's like...
