Re: Need some advice on how to learn this style being played

A latin / pop thing. Ton of this style was made in the 80's and early 90's that can be used as a reference. To some extent - it is very dated (in my opinion).

Re: Which college will be the best choice for drummer doing rock muisc in LA?

Ditto with Eastman. Only a handful allowed in each year. Many go unaccepted due to lack of skills..

The people who don't get accepted due to performance reasons could back up a dump truck full of...

Re: Priced to High??

Beautiful drums - I own a bop set as well. Like others have stated they were blowing these out last year for $1000. or even less brand new. I paid more as well since I got them a few years back.

Re: Which college will be the best choice for drummer doing rock muisc in LA?

As you know, my favorite of all... I'm more than familiar with the names you can rattle off.

A good many people would quite possibly crumble under 15 minutes of studying with some of those...

Re: Leave Me Alone, rant 2

We all have things to work on and you've acknowledged the fact that you have stuff to work on.

When I first began gigging back...

Re: Memory Lane - Music Row

I used to go a bunch almost on a monthly basis from 1984 - 1986. I live a short plane ride away so I used to take the first flight out and the last flight back same day.

When I was there I'd take...

Re: Former Modern Drummer Managing Editor Scott K Fish Says Hello

Such true words... Completely reflect my opinion as well.

I'll go one step further and say Modern Drummer was the very first thing I ever picked up that I was genuinely interested in reading. My...

Re: Buddy Rich trap case

Congratulations Anthony!

What a great relationship to have and a wonderful gift to someone who knows what it's all about and can appreciate the significance.

This made me laugh out loud.........

Re: Elvin Jones Interview from 1968

Glad you liked it 8! His recorded work with Tommy Flannigan is awesome. Your connection there with the location is super cool. Sort of like when people mention Steve Gadd to me.

Re: Gretsch Renown - thinking about buying

I've purchased hardware, bags, etc. and even a Renown snare. Never a full set.

My personal experience has been fine with them. But again, I have never transacted anything big with them. I leave...

Re: The matching snare

I actually purchase them because I like the way they sound and feel when I play them. Since I'm custom ordering my finish, I also get the same in the snare.

I do own a few snares within the same...

Re: The matching snare

Actually, in all the sets I've purchased in the last 30 years, the snare was never included. All of them required a separate purchase/order if you wanted it, which I did.

I purchased a cheaper...

I have nothing to contribute to the question... I have nothing to show and am not very "different".

Re: Orchestrate phrases around the set - Jazz

In my opinion only....

One you can physically execute the phrase and can "have fun" with it within the context of trading 2's / 4's and 8's with yourself (with the phrase being the 2 / 4 / 8 solo)...

Re: Orchestrate phrases around the set - Jazz

Listen to as much of the music as you can humanly consume and then let your ears guide the way.
