Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

Haha. Yeah, I mean... it doesn't really make sense how a metal shelled snare would really different in sound, unless the formula had changed or hardware, etc... but I'd say if there's any difference...

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

I dunno - I had a Black Galaxy Acro that sounded great, but I ended up getting rid of it because there was just something to that snare I couldn't put my finger on that I didn't like. Bought a '66...

Re: How do you save up for gear purchases?

I make enough money at my job, own my own home with a low mortgage and have flipped a ton of gear in my day to amass a pretty nicely-sized gear budget... Unfortunately, I now have too much gear to...

Re: RANT: Dissapointed in Sonor

I don't really understand how - but to each their own... I mean, you've owned the kit for an amount of time that far exceeds the warranty period, they have no obligation to replace your parts for...

Re: 99 ludwig 9 plys

Sweet! These look great - just like my 60's kit, but more shiny :P

I'll buy the badges from you, if you don't want them - my set needs some and I don't want to misrepresent them as being...

Re: First time buyer advice

Those Pearl Sessions are professional-level drums. As long as they're in good shape, those are (far and above) much better than the others IMO.

Re: PDP Concept Maple vs. DW Design Series

I currently own a Yamaha Oak Custom kit and a vintage 3-ply Ludwig Classic kit, before that, I played a custom-built C&C kit that cost twice what my two current kits did... the PDP CX kit I owned...

Re: Pearl Masters Custom Maple

There are Performers and then there are Performer B/B (Birch/Bubinga). I don't know enough about those kits to tell the difference at first glance, but it looks like ineedaclutch is saying that they...

Re: We're not copying Travis Barker

I really like flat toms, personally - I find them far more ergonomic than angled toms, assuming the rack tom is low enough for me to not have to be standing to hit them.

That being said, I can't...

Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

I'd definitely keep that wrap. You don't see something like that pop up often - rewrapping those would be a travesty!

Re: Should I get this snare?

My LM402 is probably the least bright snare I own.

Re: Gretsch Catalina Ash

Why order one and then ask if it's going to be any good? Shouldn't you have asked these questions before you bought it...? :P

Re: If you had to choose between these entry levels

The only kit off that list I'd buy is the PDP. The CX line is pro-level kit, regardless of its low price. They used high quality shells and hardware and assembled them in Mexico, under DW's eye and...

Re: Hanging Toms vs. Floor Toms - Yamaha Hexrack

Functional-wise... I prefer legs, just because there's less hardware to get in the way, and it's less to carry and move around - usually much easier to position, especially if you're in a cramped...

Re: Deal of a lifetime or ripped off for being gullable

No offense, but you will NEVER be able to flip these and make money, unless you're willing to feed a bunch of BS to the next buyer, and they fall for it.

Even it IS a Sonor-built kit, it's not...

Re: Pdp cx series vs. Ddrum dominion ash

The PDP CX kits are one of the best kept secrets in the drumming world IMO. I downgraded from a Tama Starclassic Performer to a CX a few years ago and was completely happy with my choice. Beautiful...

Re: Gretsch Stave Snare WOW

Nice! I really like the zig-zag snare I tried. Price is pretty steep on these, though. Think I'll stick with my M4 Drum Co. 14x8" Walnut / Maple stave :P

Re: First photos - In-Tense series black walnut stave

Wow, those are gorgeous. I've never seen a full kit that was done as a stave/segment.

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

My Black Galaxy Acro is the "biggest" sounding snare I own, and it also happens to be the shortest in depth... Weird!

It also happens to be for sale, as I'm trying to fund a move into a new home!...

Re: Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple, anyone got it?

I'd look for a Yamaha Musashi, instead. I have both the 12x6" and 13x6.5" and the 12 has a HUGE tone for such a small snare (though, I'm selling both to help pay for a new house I'm planning to buy...

Re: BB Clone

Pork Pie Big Black Brass - You can find these for ~$150 used, and it sounded so close to the Ludwig Black Beauty I used to own, that I sold it and kept the Pork Pie.

Now I own neither, but I think...

Re: 13x6" Ahead COB vs. Ludwig Supralite

Any reason it has to be 13"?

I find 13" snares to be far less versatile than 14" snares. Personally, I'd have no use for either of those snares, but if I had to choose I'd probably take the Ahead...

Re: StarClassic 100% birch

The Starclassic Performer Birch kit I owned a few years back is still the best sounding drum kit I've ever recorded. Take that as you will - but if it's in good shape, I'd go for it... the maple...
