Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

At least as far as your own practise space is concerned, have you thought about soundproofing?

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

I agree entirely, they do kill the feel a lot.

What is your practise space like, size-wise and area it's located in?

Re: Snare Reso Tuning Problems!!!

Whoah, yeah, 4 times is waaaaaay too much. I recommend looking up Bob Gatzen on Youtube. He has excellent tuning advice, and his videos are extremely easy to follow.

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

Well first off, I can tell you that thicker cymbals will actually be louder, so that might not be such a good idea :P

Aside from playing on an e-kit, you'd really just have to work on techniques...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

A Meinl Byzance Extra-Dry 18" thin crash. I swear, Meinl will be the death of my wallet... but they sound so good.

Re: Uses for iPad

Read the thread title and the first things that came to mind were:

- Used as a dampening for the snare, likely destroying the tablet
- Used as a click pad for the bass drum, likely destroying the...

Re: Another "first audition" thread

Congratulations on the audition!

If you know the songs, you'll do very well. Don't overplay (or underplay!) and try and get some nice chemistry going. Remember, as they're auditioning you, so too...

Re: Snare Sound Help

I'll echo previous sentiments... Ditch the batter, crank the reso, and loosen the wires a bit. I think a single ply, coated, medium weight head is a good starting point for the snare as well.

Re: Diplomacy isn't dead, but...

You definitely did the mature thing, so congrats on that.

I wouldn't have taken any of that BS from him, and would have straight up told him off... You weren't trying to tell him how to play...

Re: Drummerworld inventors

Whaaaaat? Jim, that's awesome! Could you do a video of your bass drum with vs. without the port? I'd like to hear how that affects the sound.

Re: Hi-hat foot technique

I think the stand is more than adequate for what you want to do. I have a nice Tama Road Pro hi-hat stand at home, but my band's practise kit has a cheap, generic no-name hi-hat stand. It works...

Re: Gretsch Renown Sale

Damn that's a sweet deal! I love the satin walnut burst finish, and the fact that the bass drum is 16x22 and floor tom is 14x16. Killer.

Re: Metal drum kit? (shell material, not music :)

Danny Carey of Tool has an all bronze Jeff Ocheltree kit made from recycled Paiste cymbals. Definitely something you guys might be interested in checking out.

As for the kit? Copper. Never heard a...

Re: Drum Builders, I have a question.

Oh yeah, that bloody floor tom of his. I don't understand how he gets such a deep and full sound from it. It's probably eq'd and processed all to hell and back again to get that sound.

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

You're on the right track, if new is what you want. I'd recommend (as most here will) going the used route. Therefor, you can spend the same or less, and get a much higher-end kit for the same price....
