Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

I'm going to have to agree with everyone else here and say that an hour is more than excessive. I see your logic, and a little headroom is always good to have, but working your way up to an hour is...

Re: Basic Paradiddle Combinations

Both. I usually play them straight for a while first, then spend some time shifting the accents around. All the downbeats, all the Es, &s, and As, first two, middle two, last two, etc., etc.

Basic Paradiddle Combinations

Happy new year, everyone.

Here's a little exercise I like to do to get my hands moving again after not touching sticks for the last two weeks during the holidays. Enjoy.

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

Cymbals. It's a problem. There's just always more to be had.

These are amazing! Why have I never heard of this guy? His website says everything is sold out. How do we get our hands on...

Re: Question for cruise ship drummers about practice on board

I worked for 4 different cruise lines over the years, always booked as a band.

In my experience, unfortunately, there was never anywhere to practice on the kit. Even when the lounges were closed...

Re: Recording advice/tips.

That's all great advice from Kamak.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one of those snares. It's hard to say without hearing it.

As far as changing the heads go, if you're happy with...

Re: How to progress on Tommy Igoe's Lifetime Warmup?

The key to playing faster is playing slower…MUCH slower. It's all about getting the mechanics under your hands so that they're completely second nature, like using a fork, or brushing your teeth. ...

Jack D Transcription

I found a little time on the plane to finish up this killer Jack DeJohnette transcription. This whole album is absolutely stellar. Check it.

Re: Samba

Brazilian music doesn't really have the whole 3-2 / 2-3 clave thing if that's what you're referring to. Todd's page of rhythms is a good place to start.

The ride cymbal pattern you have written...

Re: 3 piece for Metal (is it good enough)?

Do whatever you want, man! Using that setup could force you to come up with some really creative stuff. No disrespect to anyone here, but the people that are telling you to add floor toms or tune...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

Man, that is a really depressing outlook on things. I just don't buy it, and I'm a "professional teacher", as you say, as I'm sure many people on this thread are. To go about your job day in and...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

I think D is your best option.

I know it's splitting hairs, but for some reason "rent" rubs me the wrong way. Rather than charging your band mates rent, I would just agree that you'll be taking a...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

First, if you're not doing it yet/anymore, you should take some lessons yourself no matter how good you are. Get ideas from the person or people that are teaching you. It sounds like you just...

Re: SLOWING DOWN YOUTUBE VIDEOS

I am familiar with Audacity but have never tried it. Transcribe is only 20 bucks, and then you get all the new versions for free forever. I bought it 10 years ago. It's just made by one guy. I...

Re: Took a 3 month long break from practicing regularly

A little time off can be really good, especially for the brain. Three months is way too long for my taste, but whatever works for you is cool.

Personally, I find that I atrophy pretty quickly. ...

Re: Blushda fill - drum lesson

I could hear you fine, but I had to ride the volume because the drums were then REALLY loud. Maybe consider using two separate mice. That way you can duck them in post.

The notation at the...

Re: Can you practice buzz roll on a drumpad?

Snare drum is certainly your best bet, but there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to practice it on a pad.

To cut down on the gap a little bit it might be worth investing in a QuietTone pad. ...

Re: Tinnitus (ear ringing)

I was dumb and spent quite a few years in rock bands and drum and bugle corps without ear plugs. Luckily I wised up up fairly early in my twenties and had a set of custom molded ear plugs made. ...

Another option is to download Transcribe. I know you said you wanted to avoid downloading software, but it's a great program that I use a lot.

You can download the video from YouTube with KeepVid...

Re: Tom-inique Technique

That is pretty interesting, but that seems like a lot of money to drop and a lot of space to take up for a such a specialized instrument. You're not going to take that on your next wedding gig. And...
