Re: New from Drum Workshop: Almond Collector's series

JG needs a new hair style lol. His hair is freaking me out.

I wish they would have featured a real sound clip instead of burying the drum's sound in a soundtrack that I could barely hear.

Re: Your Favorite COB Snare

Curious Doug...does it have to be chrome over brass and why? Would a non-chromed brass shell work too?

What is it that the chrome does to change the sound? I really have no idea. If I took a brass...

Re: Hello

Hey Duncan!

For those of you who may not know, Duncan's original handle was mediocrefunkybeat

At the time, it was in vogue to rearrange the letters in the handle to make a different handle....

Re: Self-Doubt

Ain't that the truth. I spent many years thinking I had to work just as hard as I could.

Then I found out that the opposite works WAY better. I was trying to run when all I needed to do was walk.

Re: Help a Dad out buying used set for son.

FWIW, I used that ride cymbal as my main ride for at least 5 years. It's seen quite a few gigs.

So hopefully it has some good juju that rode along with the cymbal see what I did there :)

That...

Re: Philosophical Question

I don't want to be the worst player in the band. I do however want someone in the band that I musically admire that I can learn something from.

Re: Self-Doubt

Self doubt is a hallmark of being in one's head too much.

If all one is listening to is drums...the job doesn't get done by focusing on just the drum part. It's not about you as a drummer, at all,...

Re: Help a Dad out buying used set for son.

That's beautiful man. Many happy returns.

Your boy must feel like he's on top of the world with that set. Heck I'm a jaded adult, and I still like playing that set. Great choice. Your little guy...

Re: Crossroads

I quit the metronomic band in July. I joined an original band shortly after that. I just quit the original gig. That band's gigs aren't fun enough. It's all work and no fun lol. Besides, thinking it...

Re: Mapex Saturn walnut V

If you do it...there's no going back. Once you play walnut, it's like a tractor beam lol.

I considered a Saturn kit for about 5 minutes. I temporarily forgot that I'm fairly tight with a world...

Re: Drumming Barefoot or in Socks?

Hospital socks with the rubber grippers on the bottom would work for the barefoot guys who would rather wear socks. They grip pretty good.

Re: extended snare ,snare drums?

I could never get on board with the extended snare thing. A pretty important thing in my book...conventional snare systems can exert pressure on the bottom resonant head, that offers you a range of...

Re: Help a Dad out buying used set for son.

That kit you got can do a variety of gigs. I like it because I felt so dominant on it. It will be a perfect size kit for your son. And it's good enough to keep into adulthood. The tune safe lugs work...

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

How about the women who mismatch their nail color. Drives me nuts.

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

We mismatch our snares do we not?

This is just the next step forward.

Look at it like that.

Re: And I got a rack!

Hey Bill let's wager on it. I'll bet a dollar that it's no longer a thing by July 31, 2019.

This is a good ob, and a funny analogy too lol. I'm still going with Bo as more of a traditional...

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Mismatched kits makes you stand out from the boring matched crowd.

Mismatched kits quietly state that you are confident and that you know exactly what you are doing.

Mismatched kits make people...

Re: Detuned toms

In my experience, sounding good (low deep and punchy) at the throne means not sounding good in the audience if you are unmiced.

If you tune the toms higher for gigs, the sound will carry to the...

Re: Crossroads

Country Blues really reaches down deep in me. It's so rich in content. My favorite Blues song of all time, Charley Patton's "Spoonful Blues" You absolutely have to read the lyrics to understand him,...

Re: Crossroads

My first thought was to join an already gigging band. I could start my own, but I'd rather jump right into gigging I think. I kind of know the jams around me. I'm picky.

I'm not sure whether...

Crossroads

I quit my band of 8 years last July, and recently left an original blues/rock/swing type band for a few reasons. I didn't like the gigs for reasons I can't state here. I really liked the leader guy...
