Re: Yamaha Stage Custom Vs OCDP Venice Vs PDP Concept Maple

Those are - birch vs. basswood vs. maple if buying new.

Consider general appearance and finish type, sizes, configurations, hardware and mounting systems, sound, and your gut instincts about them....

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

The rods, claws and rims should be simple swaps.
The only snag would be in the tom mounting system - would probably call for some new holes somewhere - lol

Re: New Gretsch Renown Birch

http://www.cymbalfusion.com/renown-walnut/

The shell composition seems good (6-ply walnut/maple/walnut shells with 30-degree bearing edges),
but I don't care for the sizes.

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

Bo's problem is easy to solve.
My dilemma is a little more difficult - or potentially costly.

I'd like Ludwig Classic Maple shells and lugs,
with Yamaha's lightning T rods and claws for the...

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

The solution seems obvious to me too, but I came to a different conclusion from the above quote.

You need to sell the Pearls and get another set of Ludwigs.

Re: Always out of breath, need to get my stamina up somehow.

Find out if you have any medical problems that may be causing it first.

If not, then follow some of the good suggestions given here.

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

I'd email them and see if you can work out a deal on something else.

Re: No love for 20" bassdrums?

20 is essential.

The rest are just extras for fun.

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

Are these the ones? http://athensohio.craigslist.org/msg/4781154304.html

I'm not too up on Ludwig stuff, but I don't think they're Rockers. Pretty sure they never had those kinds of lugs.
One...

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

I was basing my comments on the Rockers from the info I got here: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_rockers.html

That - plus there are Rockers around here pretty frequently, but I don't...

Re: A new idea? Probably not.

You probably can drop the floor tom and ride cymbal too.

If you picked the right 17" hats, you probably can get a useable ride ride sound with them open.
Bass and snare are enough for the 2 and...

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

No debate here - 5 pc. w/2 up, 1 down is how I roll.

About the Rockers - there are two separate 5 pc. Rocker kits (with snares), available locally.
They've been for sale for $150 for each kit...

Re: Got my 50th anniversary supra today!

Please don't.

It was meant in a good-natured, kidding kind of way, but I should have put a LOL with it.

Re: Got my 50th anniversary supra today!

Try to keep it that way. It's not that hard to do.

It looks really great right now. I hate to see them when they're all trashed out, even if they still sound good.
Nice drum - I like it.

Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

Read on another forum that these were at the PASIC show.

Probably be announced at the upcoming NAMM. Really interested to hear what these sound like. I suspect they'll be a bit pricey though.

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats VS Sonor Safari

I'm not a fan of those sizes.
But I've heard the Breakbeats and it sounds good.

If I were to choose between just those two kits, I'd get the Ludwig in black sparkle: ...

Re: What a bummer :-(

I don't understand how you guys have trouble positioning your ride with a 2 up set.
I've always used a 5 piece with two toms mounted on the bass drum.

I can have my arm touching my body all the...

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

I'm pretty tempted by this. No one around here has one to try, so I tried to find some videos/reviews.
Didn't come up with too much, but the Pork Pie Facebook page implies that they're almost...

Re: suggestions for best rods and brushes

I like Vic Firth Heritage brushes: http://www.vicfirth.com/product/buynow/product.php?button=HB

Like MHD says though, you've got to try some out.
Different diameters, lengths, handle coatings,...

That'll work.

I like the idea of the bolt for the leg mount to secure it.

Re: Gretsch orphans or new kit?

Have you checked this place?

Seems they've got a fair amount of loose Gretsch stuff. Not sure about the prices though.
What kind of a budget are you...
