Re: Painting and Staining drums

Those drums look absolutely fantastic! I'm assuming, that if you wanted a more transparent finish, you would use a stain for the color coat instead of traditional paint? Btw, if this topic is old I...

I wouldn't recommend that. You're putting more stress on the head in uneven distances and that won't give the sound its full potential. Best to loosen all the lugs a little bit instead of a couple of...

Re: How do I tune the drums in relation to each other

I tune both top and bottom heads to the same pitch. I find I get a much cleaner pitch that way. I have two head combos that I like to use: Coated EC2 SST's over EC Reso's for studio and sometime live...

Re: Meridian Maple vs. Force 3007

I would respectfully have to disagree. Yes I may come off biased as I own the kit but I tested it against many other kits including a Gretsch Renown/Catalina Maple, Tama Superstar, Pearl Vision, OCDP...

Re: Jim Riley Snare??? Have any of you heard or seen it in person?

Hey Jim!!

Pleasure to hear from you - I was just on your website, is your signature snare the one you used on the recordings on your website or is that a different one? I've always been a huge fan...

Re: DW tom tuning help.

Glad you found your sound man. DW's are amazing drums, I even saw a PDP Platinum set at Guitar Center once with those same stock heads you were talking about and they sounded huge and really deep....

Re: Meridian Maple vs. Force 3007

I would have to respectfully disagree with whoever said to forget the PDP's. In my honest opinion the quality of the PDP Platinums is far superior than that of the Mapex or Sonor. I've never been a...

Re: 440 drumset tuning

I must confess I didn't bother to read this whole thread but this is what I will say to everyone:

Tune each drum the way the drum wants to be tuned. I used math to figure out what pitches to tune...

Re: Bass drum sound

Porting the reso feeds more of the beater attack directly to the audience and definitely makes miking easier, however you will lose a bit of resonance you would otherwise have with a non-ported head....
