Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

that new setup looks pretty tight and compact to me.
I would make just a couple small tweaks, but that looks pretty good to me.
As mentioned by someone else, I'd reduce the spread of the snare...

Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

good advice so far. I'd also suggest you could try swapping the positions of the 10" and 12" toms, that would allow you to bring them down a little lower. Check out Anika Nilles kit for an example,...

Re: Analogue to digital - the journey begins.

I'm just excited for the eventual post when you show off your new electronic drum kit, and heads explode.

Re: Yamaha Nouveau Lug Replacement

you need the same kind of plastic lugs, and I believe they are discontinued, so you'll have to watch ebay for some. Or else you have to replace the lugs with something else. Might be cheaper to find...

Re: Funny the things that matter

the 900 series hi hat is a couple pounds heavier. I did have a tama iron cobra lever glide hi hat stand before (pretty much the same stand as the speed cobra 900), but it was a bit heavy in my...

Re: Funny the things that matter

I always had the mix and match hardware, but now that I'm older, and I was due for a freshening up, I went all matching Yamaha stands, and now the odd little bits that aren't, like my cowbell mount,...

Re: Hoops/Lugs pitting... what can I do about it?

put some car wax on them after you've cleaned them. It'll help keep the oxidation from starting right up again. And touch it up occasionally after that.

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

I usually run about 280 top, 350 bottom. going up to 400 bottom does seem like way too much.

I personally love my tunebot. I use the calculator app, select max resonance, and pitch adjust -2. The...

Re: What drums intrigue you that you have NEVER owned

A local drummer has a monster radial kit that they use for jam nights very occasionally. Sadly they have hydraulic heads and are tuned JAW, so I feel like that's not exactly taking advantage of the...

Re: What to do?

Just so you know, Live Oaks are already discontinued, so if you are hopping on that train, you better get them while you can.

Re: New Drums from Mapex

it sure looks like from what I've read on here, ultimately sound isn't the most important thing to many people, it's looks.

Personally I'll wait til I hear and see one in person before I judge...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Well I have to give them credit, they are really going for it with this kit. I feel like 1/2 of it is just sales speak, there sure is a lot of interesting things going on with this kit. Considering...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

I'm Canadian, and I use Sabian cymbals and Ayotte drums, both of which are Canadian companies. At least here, Sabian's are a bit cheaper than any other cymbal line of equivalent quality, so that is a...

Re: Musician vs Artist

despite the actual definitions posted elsewhere in this thread, I've always thought that artists create art, and musicians create music.

I'd never in my life heard a musician referred to as an...

Re: Stain and clear coat on an old beat up kit with video

I really appreciated that you kept in the things you learned on the fly from making mistakes. I think it helps show someone else who tries this that you can screw up a bit and it's not the end of the...

Re: The needless debate over drum construction and the misguided search for undo drum resonance

Mid summer I played a outdoor festival show. Back line was supplied, a nice although well worn set of Mapex Saturns. When I got up to the drum riser, they were being close miked and had Evans...

Re: When's the best time to buy a used shell pack?

I had a set of Catalinas. I didn't care for the snare, but the rest were decent. And the number of lugs changes, it's not 5 lugs on all of them, just the smaller 3 toms, depending on the era. They...

Re: When's the best time to buy a used shell pack?

Yes, I've bought a ton of stuff from Jim in Cambridge, he's always got something great.

Re: When's the best time to buy a used shell pack?

OP, what kind of kit are you looking for specifically? But yeah, I'd say aside from January, when guys have bought a new kit for Christmas and decide to move their old kit, there is no real specific...

Re: Tama SLP Dry Aluminum vs Acrolite?

I had a 70's acrolite and hated the throw off assembly and strings too. I bought the SLP dry aluminum and enjoy it more. Soundwise they are very similar but I never had them side by side to do a true...

Re: One Drum Set Vs Several Drum Sets?

for almost 25 years I used my 5 piece Pearl Export kit for everything. And there was a lot of moving and setting it up and tearing it down for practicing at home and gigging and rehearsing.

A few...

Re: How important is knowing the songs?

Kenny Aronoff charts everything, and I don't think anyone would call him mechanical or lacking feel.

Re: Drumming & Singing Simultaneously

Over a long period of time, I got to be a pretty decent singer. I was really bad when I first started out, but worked at it a lot.
When I don't sing for a while, it definitely hurts my singing...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I think what people tend to forget with higher end stuff is a lot of the price is going to be tied to the labour involved of the finish. The basic components of an average intermediate or high end...
