Re: DW problem

I agree that if you ordered a VLT tom you should have gotten one, I am a DW guy. Two kits and a dozen snares.

If you are tuning just above wrinkle the 8 isn't going to fit in very well. They have...

Re: Not sure how to do this

I hear ya. When I listen to playback in my head phones or in the car it sounds good. When i listen to it on computer speakers the bass drum is all attack and no punch.

Re: Sonor Snare Drums Video - SQ2, Phonic Reissue and One of a Kind

Those snares sound great. Would like to see some pictures of your recording gear. All your drum videos sound really good. A behind the scenes look would be really cool. A lot of us are into recording...

Re: 15 inch snare?

I looked into heads and wires already. Puresound makes 15 inch ones, but I agree with you that selection is fairly limited.

Re: 42-strand snare wires

Puresound makes a 30 strand snare wire called the Super 30 that I have used with good results. I have 42s on a couple drums and they sound great. Either way it's a modest investment.

Re: 10 Tama Star Snare Drum Shootout

I watched that a few days ago. The snare that's listed as copper looks like bronze to me. Please clarify. Thanks.

Re: DW Exotic Maple Spruce Kit vs. DW Pure Maple Kit

Yes, wood and shell lay up matters, It's not just heads, edges, tuning, and the time of day. It all matters, and each component of the drum contributes to the overall sound.

If shell construction...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

I use the tune bot every time I play. Some times just to check the snare and weekly to touch up the entire kit.

For snares that are 6.5 and deeper I usually run around 260 top and 360 - 380...

Re: How do I tell my friend that his expensive custom handmade snare is shit?

If he is really a friend he should be open to your suggestions. If your friendship hinges on the sound of a drum he isn't much of a friend.

Re: Bass drum mic picking up Toms

I've noticed that too with certain tom/bass drum tunings. When I hit my kick the toms would resonate. Kinda like snare buzz. That might be what's happening and the overheads are picking it up.

Re: Good news & mini session report.

Glad it went well, That studio looks great! Looks like a comfortable room. Some studios can be a little sterile, but that looks like a great place to let the creative juices flow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHjKzr6tLz0

Don't know if the drummer is playing 8's on the kick or is keeping time with his foot like some do on the hat pedal. Stick shots on the and of 1 & 2 in...

Re: Moaning' Jazz ride

Re: How to set up your drums

I think a lot of guys on here who would benefit from this article.

1. Hi hat too far to the rear. Not in line with the bass drum pedal causing the body to twist to the left.

2. Snare drum way...

Re: Moaning' Jazz ride

There are some basic fundamentals working against you. You don't have a fulcrum. You're holding the sticks to far back and that makes them front heavy. Not the best grip for rebound. There should be...
