Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

On eBay now there are a slew of different "sellers" hawking the Asian Slingerland snares that were part of the cache. Not sure how several different people suddenly have so many of these NOS snares,...

Re: Drum Identification

Yes. I think the snare itself could sell for at least $300.

Re: Drum Identification

60s, early 70s Premier thin ply with re-rings drums are going to worth a lot more than that $500.

Re: Interesting Observation Regarding Drum Quality and Sound Preferences

Older snares really have the sound that I like, and I can tune them just the way I like. New snares I feel like require higher tuning on both reso and batter, and snares to be tighter. I seem to be...

Re: Drum Identification

It is a Premier kit made in England. LOL

Seriously it is an excellent vintage set of drums. They are thin shells most likely mahogany from the color of interior ply, and with reinforcement rings....

Re: Space Aliens at the local bar

Not much different than the trend I've read about here with band's playing live with backing tracks of other/ additional instruments. That seems to be widely accepted. Not my thing but I see it here...

Re: Zoom Q2N (Camera) questions.

We use my iPhone almost exclusively for recording practice, and also videos at gigs. Who buys a camera anymore?

Re: Retro Drum Pics

It's always unmic'd, and I keep asking the guys in trio if they can hear it and they always say yes. My wife was in audience Saturday and I asked her and she said yes it was plenty loud. The...

Retro Drum Pics

Retro pics taken with Hipstamatic app on iPhone. The kit is Sonor AQ2 with a 14x13 kick drum that I regularly gig with our jazzy blues trio. The snare is a 13x4 Fortune that sounds great for our...

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple - Players Review

Are you playing in a Led Zeppelin tribute band or ??? Those are big drums with lots of volume, and a lot of weight to lug around. Make sure the music you play matches these sizes. Seems you're about...

Re: Cool historical photograph-drumkit

It's 18th and Vine KC. Sorry about that.

Yeah on weekends they open the place up at 1am and musicians around town drop in to play after their gigs. It's a tradition going back many years.

Re: Cool historical photograph-drumkit

A few of pics on wall at Mutual Musicians Foundation 18th and Vince KC. I was there from 1am-5am one Saturday a few weeks ago listening to the jam. Man, this place has all the history and the vibe,...

Re: Popcorn Snare suggestions

I use mine as main snare 90% of gigs. I tune all of mine (I have three 12" and one 13") pretty low so I get a great crushed roll sound. Works great for my jazz-infused blues trio.

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

Ankle is beyond repair or medical intervention. I had spinal cord tumor that damaged my rt leg and foot as a child. Triple ankle joint fusion at 30 and redo 15 years later, plus several...

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

The Roland was a fail. I don't have enough control of my foot. It's not gonna be the answer.

Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

OK after last gig I've come to conclusion my right foot just can't take a 3 hour gig anymore (4 hours with 3 hours of playing time). Even an hour of practice is becoming impossible. It's not so much...

Re: Recommendations on 20x12 or Smaller Kick

Thanks for heads up. Yeah they are great kits. I looked for one and none were available. It's cool they now have some available. I ended up buying maple Sonor AQ2 in a beautiful WMP wrap with a 14" x...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

And, if it's to replace your regular gigging kit and you're not just buying it as a collectable, I'd look at a lot of different kits. You can get a way-better new kit for a lot less than $1,300 US...
