Switching leads is definitely a very good use of the paradiddle, be it to switch back to the right-hand lead after an alternating triplet/quintuplet, or just to maintain even exertion between both...

Stacking thick and wide books helps a lot. For me I need about 10-12cm height, then I put my practice pad on top. I have to keep my ankles from going under my knees (that makes the knees jut upwards)...
