Re: Good trade?

I can't see you selling those two cymbals for close to what you should be able to get for that kit...

I'd say no-go.

Re: DIY Gong Drum

Very nice! Great job on matching the colour. I can see the wood grain fine with this pic, and if you'd told me this was an actual Tama drum, I'd have believed you.

Only thing that worries me about...

Re: Starclassic maple or DW collectors

This right here, is the way to go.

They're both great kits. If you can try them both out, that would be even better.

Personally, I find 14" floor toms completely useless, so that's a strike...

Re: Phil Rudd pleads guilty

Oh yeah, his AC/DC days are done for sure. No way they'd want that kind of negative energy surrounding the band.

Such a shame for this to have happened.

Re: Chuck Norris ??

Damn. That poor Tama. Toughest name in drums? Apparently not.

Re: Stradivarius Tympani: Like Itzhak Perlman, Only Louder

"...fatal encounter with an heirloom spruce..."
Hahaha, if it's all true, cool, and if not, a fine April Fool's joke.

Re: But What To Wear?

As ZZ Top put it:
"Every girl's crazy for a sharp dressed man."

For my classic rock band gig, I usually wear jeans and a more casual looking dress shirt.

Re: Felt vs plastic

Major difference between felt/plastic beaters, for all the reasons already mentioned here. I do notice a slight difference in feel between them as well though; the felt is a bit softer feeling to my...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I prefer nylon tips for their durability as well as their slightly brighter sound. Plus I find they offer a bit more definition.

Re: Linear "Bonham" Triplets poll and discussion

Cool poll, I'll play...

1. Right handed

2. Nope!

3. Right hand as default

4. E - I play both RLK and KRL, but also RLKK and KKRL with the double bass.

Re: 15 for 30 challenge!

My god man, why?

I couldn't do it. Hell, I couldn't play that slow for 1 minute, let alone 30 without embellishment!

Re: Making a difference - Oz update :)

Hell yeah! Andy, that's awesome. Seeing this has actually brought a couple tears to my eyes. I'm so glad to see people helping each other like this, and that your friend survived his ordeal.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Aw yeah, that's the stuff! Sabian's Artisans are my favourite line they make.

I just picked up a 14" set of Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Medium hats today, and my god, they are absolutely superb.

Re: My drum tuning

Tune? I just put the heads on finger-tight! So much easier than taking the time to learn the ins and outs my instrument! Plus, it gives me a deep, thuddy sound that all the pros want. Of course, it's...

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

I agree with Larry: play the drums you want first. If you find two sets you love... try them out blindfolded, to really see what sounds better to your ear.

Gorgeous cymbals by the way, those will...

Re: Tama Bell Brass tuning demo with Tune-Bot

Nice video, although I'm not a huge fan of the snare. Are those 16" K Light Hats? They sound beautiful.

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

My god that drum has a lot of character. Nice crack, with some good depth. I love it.

What sonic characteristics would santos rosewood offer, typically speaking?

Re: '51 Slingerland Resto-mod

Goon, I've seen some of your other posts, and man, you really know what you're doing. Absolutely lovin' that snare! The finish is gorgeous, and it sounds pretty darn good! Also, I have to say, I like...

Re: Mapex help

Yep, definitely looks like a Mars series kit. It's a beginner-intermediate kit that can be made to sound pretty good.

Re: Floor Tom tuning

I really should have clarified what I meant by "a little higher". In my mind, I foolishly assumed that "just above wrinkle" was a universal thing that all drummers knew. Silly me, not making my...

Re: Floor Tom tuning

Throw a G1 on there, tune it up a little bit higher, and bring the reso just a tad above that, and it should give you what you want.

Re: The order of things....

Yep, I'd recommend snare and hats before anything else as well. You can make a beginner kit sound nice, with good heads and tuning, but a nice snare will always be better.
