Re: Removing sharpie from Ludwig wrapped drum?

Nice kit, glad you got the sharpie marks off it. Looks real stunning.

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

What I don't like is walking into a closed clique when I go for a jam with some new people. When everybody is talking about you behind your back before even meeting you, you know the odds are in...

Re: Pedal setup - aka. how do people play this?

I don't find it so odd. I have an assymetric set up too, snares and hi-hat to the left and all my toms a bit right of centre. Pedals are either parallel if I'm using a double bass drum, or with the...

Re: Is it wrong to ask...

I think that email from the guitarist is being over-analysed. I don't see anything wrong with what he said, especially if he's the band leader in your current project. It makes sense to want...

Re: Tips in learning w/ drum covers?

It's a good idea to listen to the track a couple of times and if make small notes for reference purposes. Then put the track on a loop (or just press play) and practice the song from end to end a...

Re: Double Kick Practice Tips!

Play with a metronome at all times, sometimes in our pursuit of speed, we forget that we have to stay on time. Also, other than practicing straight forward double bass, it's a good idea to try out...

Re: Jim Gordon

I had never heard about Jim Gordon before this thread, quite enlightening.

When I clicked on it, I was thinking, "Woah, a thread about Commissioner Gordon from Batman".

Re: How do you guys learn a song?

I don't have any spiffy tools to do it. I just load up the track on youtube (if I don't have the CD) or load up the album and play it over and over till I have something resembling the complete...

Re: Tempo problems!

Since you've notice the problem, you just need to work on it. Play with a metronome and stick to the metronome. If you mess up, stop and start again. Play simple stuff. Play complex stuff. But it all...

Improved technique from improved settings

I figure this is food for thought for a lot of drummers. We often experience limitations in our playing when we sit behind someone else's kit because they have different settings. But how many times...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

Have the guys spring for gas transporting the thing and help setting it up. I see that as the best situation and they'll all always remember you as the great guy who helped them get to the next level...

Re: Converting programmed drum parts to acoustic kit

I disagree. Look at some of the Zildjian cymbals on their VSTs or a software like BFD or Superior Drummer. The sounds are there and as with any instrument, you can EQ or tweak it otherwise to fit in...

Re: Converting programmed drum parts to acoustic kit

More than anything else that makes an acoustic rendition impossible, programmed drums are quantised to fit with a grid. That's not natural for any drummer, since there's no way we can keep time like...

Re: Traveling Drumset

Best option? Get a practice kick pad and a snare practice pad.

Few "traveller" kits are small enough to pack in a suitcase and they will weigh quite a bit, costing you a lot of money in excess...

Re: Modern Metal songs with the "best" Drums

Slayer's crossover into death metal with Divine Intervention. Killer drumming and album

I think the Pantera albums also fit into the 20-year cutoff. Some really innovative approaches to groove on...

Re: Hand Pain

Also, if you are in extreme discomfort now, just take a break from the drums and let your hand heal. And when you return, work on an appropriate sticking technique/grip as suggested. Do not play if...

Are you obsessed about groove? Are you obsessed about power? Are you obsessed about control? Are up obsessed with dynamics?

Pick a card. any card.

Midi - Useful for live, useless for recording drums aka a long way to go

I thought this was worth discussing, considering the difficulty I've been having trying to put together a demonstration of my pedal triggers, as requested by a couple of our dear forum members. I was...

Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

Dude, that was awesome. What a beautiful and groovy sounding piece.

And at around the 2:00 mark, I think we have the conclusive evidence we've been looking for that everyone needs a double bass...

Re: I Play Better When I Donít Practice

I think you're worrying too much about regimenting your practice sessions. On account of that, you assert that a day or two of rest helps you focus better.

I'll counter that statement by pointing...
