Re: The mediocre drum guru?

A lot of good stuff in here. Thanks everyone! Made me feel better about myself.

Played some music with some old metalheads the other day, and they couldn't stop saying I was awesome on drums. That...

Re: The mediocre drum guru?

I give tips and advice when needed. It just seems the people that have played much longer than me ask for all the help, and have no advice to share. Makes me feel like I'm being praised for when I...

The mediocre drum guru?

Any of you on here feel you aren't a great drummer, but have a lot of people say you're amazing and ask for advice?
While I always try to improve, I don't think I'm anything special. But I always...

Re: Orange County "Custom"

Decided to add the 10x7 tom.
Looks good by the 12x8.

Re: Orange County "Custom"

I know, I love them. I love the sound of Basswood, but the wrap killed the tone when it warped.
Though with a broken lug on the snare, I can't decide if I want the ten inch, or put the lug on the...

Re: Orange County "Custom"

Also I never loved a drum finish this much. Its one lite coat of minwax polyshade in espresso satin. It lightly sealed the wood while giving a natural feel of the grain.

Re: Orange County "Custom"

Thanks guys!

The removal of wrap actually brought out the bass, the 14 sounds huge.

Orange County "Custom"

Now before you think this is some "should I buy it" or "is it good" thread, its not.

I have an ocdp Venice kit I got a while ago, and after some wrap and hardware problems, I finished it in a nice...

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

I'm gonna be refinishing my drum kit and had a quick couple questions.
After some unfortunate problems my kit lost what little value it had. I brought the wrong snare to a grindcore session, and...

Re: OCDP Venice

Heck yes they do. Finger tight they have a good tone. Even higher they have good sustain.

Re: OCDP Venice

There will be no second guessing. I finally enjoy a 5 piece kit again. Only because I can put the toms low while keeping them over the kick.

Re: OCDP Venice

All my previous kits were black or red. Wrapped or not. Its a nice visual change.

Re: OCDP Venice

That's what I heard, but playing it the first time there was a lot of punch. The powerstroke 3 I put on with a small washcloth as the only muffling made it perfect.

They do take up room. But they are cannons.

Re: OCDP Venice

Yup. 10, 12 and 14.
I am digging the kick. It sounds and plays better than expected for the size. And looks cool.

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

I am probably gonna break it down into a 4 piece. Not sure if I wanna use the 10, or 12 inch tom though...

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

Sadly the nearest drum store I know of is a 4 hour drive away, in a city that I hate trying to get through. Last time I went there for a concert, and I was nearly hit 4 times by people running red...

OCDP Venice

After some trouble getting tom mounts, I can finally review the set I got.

The OCDP Venice is surprisingly not as popular as they should be. Probably the bad rep from being basswood, and a...

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

I was the one with the cannibalized set. It was the last of that specific set. Though it is nice having the choice of a double tom holder

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

Thanks! Now I have a cheap apx ozone. And the kit is better than expected. I honestly love the sound of basswood

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

Well they gave me two dw clamps. A single and double tom mount. And a discount on a cymbal

Re: Guitar center has failed me.

I am heading there now. They had one ocdp in when I went, yet he said he tried the same mounts on another and they worked. But he is willing to sort it out.
