Re: When are you considered an advanced drummer?

Damn, I'm screwed cause I'm advanced at the beginner beats :D

BTW - You are what they say you are (they being everyone but yourself).

Re: Pollyana

Thanks - and good to see ya!

I have been back posting for a week or two and hadn't seen your name. As I remembered, you were an active forum member and I started to wonder.... Didn't know if you...

Pollyana

I have been out of the loop for a while - upon returning I thought I would run into Pollyana as she was a pretty active forum member.

I was just wondering if I missed something? I hope all is well!

Re: Stuck in a drum fill rut

Yep, and thats another thing - Dynamics.

You can simply change your "inner mixer" (dynamics) and have a wide variety of your same go-to fills. Like you said, start ghost noting or accenting the...

Re: Why do drummers need rides?

Oh hey! It looks like Dr. Watso covered it already but I'll just confirm.

Don't over think it or complicate it yet. It's simply 16th notes as the Dr. mentioned but in my example above you simply...

Re: Why do drummers need rides?

Simple test to see if YOU might like to use a ride...

First, play the standard rock beat (money beat, etc.). Steady 1/8th note on the hi-hat, kick on 1 & 3, snare on 2 &4. Sound good? Great....

Re: Just wanted to share this with my fellow drummers

You want us to take the time to listen to your work and perhaps even comment on it?

The least you can do is take the time to find the right place to post this... otherwise, it just looks like a...

Re: How long should I play drums a day?

+1 Couldn't have said it better.

I don't want to be a "top drummer". I want to make great music. I may be considered a top drummer if I make great music but I'm in it for the music. I don't care...

Re: How long should I play drums a day?

And, while practicing keep in mind...

Practice does NOT make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Therefore, make sure you are practicing the right technique and spending the time to learn the...

Re: Drum set instruction book recommendations

With all do respect, I do NOT recommend this for a beginner if they are finding that Groove Essentials 1.0 is too challenging.

Please do not confuse my post - HG&F is a phenomenal package... but I...

Re: Mikelessons.com or stephensdrumshed.com

+1 for mikeslessons

Phenomenal teacher and excellent teaching style.

My advice... try them both and see for yourself. I know in Mikes case you can try it and cancel anytime without any kind of...

Re: Drum set instruction book recommendations

Which Groove Essentials version are you using?

I would be surprised if Groove Essentials 1.0 is too much if you start at the beginning.

With that said, I always recommend "Basic Drumming" by...

Re: Electronic drums

Hmm this is a tough call...

I know you don't want to spend too much with your anticipation of selling the kit. But keep in mind that the more expensive kits will hold their value as long as you...

Re: Little help transcribing this nice cowbell groove- Rutboyniles?

I just listened/watched the clip quickly and have not attempted to transcribe it for you but it sounds like the typical "go-go beat" after the double stroke on the bell.

Its still a 4/4 beat but...

Re: Using the same fills...

Ah yes, the "go to" fill. We all have them and we all get stuck sometimes. My advice (among the great points mentioned above) is, make it a point NOT to play that "go to" fill at all for a while....

Re: This a good deal/kit?

Personally I love the Renowns. I don't think either one is a steal by any means. However, it looks like they are willing to negotiate the price so either one is a great kit.

Great... thanks for the thoughts so far!

The kit itself is a 4-piece (2 up, 1 down and bass).
