Re: Help Choosing The Appropriate Drum Set

So why not ask him how he tunes? It would be easier than having us guess for you.

Re: Mixing Brands Drums/Cymbals/Hardware

Cymbals, stands, and throne I couldn't care less about the brand or if they match. I like my drums to all match, and my kick pedals must match, no exceptions. Heads don't have to match as long as...

Re: Songs About Fathers

At first I was thinking of the song by Dickie Lee about the little girl who drowns in the river. Clarence Carter's song is much better.

Good stuff so far, but still not much. I know Rooster by...

Songs About Fathers

Everyone loves their mother, and mother's have tons of songs about this. But what about fathers? All we get is "Papa was a Rolling Stone" and "Cats in the Cradle". That sucks. Are there any positive...

Re: My new Gretsch drums

Argh, again hoping they are here. We can build 1500+ speaker cabinets in a month at work. What's the hold up? The suspense is killing me!

Re: Really bad TV or Movie fake bands

Argh, this stuff drives me nuts. The drummer does a fill, but the song doesn't. The song has a crash, but the drummer doesn't do it. Snare hits don't line up, the drummer is playing the hi hats but...

Re: Advice for this old Ludwig snare

Go to eBay and get a 1'x5' piece of automotive vinyl wrap. You can apply it directly over the old wrap. It's really thin, easy to apply, easy to remove if you don't like it, and fairly inexpensive....

Re: Help! (New drummer)

Between the Sonor and Mapex, I'd pick the Mapex. You get more, and it's from a drum shop. The guy selling it should be knowledgeable about drums and willing to answer any questions you may have.

Re: Help! (New drummer)

What's your budget?

In the $600 range there is some good stuff.

This Sonor: https://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/d/kernersville-sonor-drum-set/6905741385.html

This Mapex:...

Re: Bass drum playing; heel or toe?

I play blast beats heel up. While I personally find heel up easier for extreme speeds, there will be other thoughts on this subject. Heel down can be just as fast (first 2 Origin albums, John...

Re: Book Club

I also love WW2 history. It's fascinating.

My nerd/mechanical side has read this twice, and will probably be reading it again at some point. I keep looking for mistakes to make this stuff work,...

Re: Soldering snare wires

I work with a guy who is a genius when it comes to soldering. He doesn't heat up the solder, but the wires instead. He gets them hot, then puts the solder to the wires and it melts itself to the...

Re: RATE THIS

Agreed. Swapping the hi hats/ride for the kick seems more natural for me. Don't know if this is still considered a shuffle, but the feel is there.

Re: Band give aways /Burner sticks

Went to see Psychostick with a group of friends. The drummer threw out a stick and one of my friends caught it. We all signed it and gave it back to him. Seemed appropriate considering the band.

Re: Do you have any OCD-type traits about your drums/set-up?

Nah it's fine. When I was gigging I always bought new sticks for shows and left practice sticks in the jam room. They went in a milk crate, left sticks on the left, right on the right. Tips down, in...

Re: Your practice time...pleasure to work ratio

Depends on my mood. Music is always playing, or at least a click (more OCD). Sometimes I will just jam out, and other times I will incessantly run patterns I want to learn over and over using the...

Re: Do you have any OCD-type traits about your drums/set-up?

No labels. When I get a new pair I roll them around in my hands until they feel right. The left and right both know which goes where. Once I start using them, I keep them on the snare. The left stays...

Re: Do you have any OCD-type traits about your drums/set-up?

Stand feet must not protrude past bass drum spurs.

Snare must be disengaged after playing.

My pedals must be symmetrical. The snare stand feet must form a triangle that sits equidistant from...

I get up at 4am. You should see all the spammers in the members list just waiting to get deleted. Some of them are crafty and have names similar to members. Most do not.

Re: And my metal project is done....

Not necessarily. Neil Peart doesn't play anymore. Is he now amateur? Calling one's self a professional because you get paid is one thing. Calling another amateur because y'all don't jive is not only...

Re: Z-Max

With the heal plate, unless you are talking about the hinge itself, there is no need to lube non-moving parts. If they are becoming loose, either replace them or use Loctite. The DD linkage would be...

Re: Z-Max

No. It's a gimmick. The FTC has/had a lawsuit against the makers of Z Max for unsubstantiated claims. Further testing showed that Z Max is just tinted mineral oil, and actually wears engine bearings...

Re: The last ever Guru Origin kit

Wow the last one, they are beautiful but make me sad. This is like seeing the last Ferrari. I'm glad you will be using them, not just keeping them for a show piece.

Just out of curiosity, do you...
