Re: Rude by Magic! Drum Tab?

My questions are, if your drum teacher wants it beat for beat did he/she transcribe it for you to take home and practice? Is your teacher capable of writing out parts for you to practice? Can you ask...

Re: Talking salespeople down in price

I like your uncle's method. That's pretty much how I like to car shop.

Re: Talking salespeople down in price

I used to be afraid of haggling. I have learned not to be as well as when you can and cannot haggle. Although, it never hurts to ask, "Cut me a deal?" If you show me you're willing to save me some...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I LOVE this clutch, as well. Guy in the store said try this one, it's cheaper than the dw one I was eyeing and simply works. Push, twist and release. Aahh.

Re: The session guys!

Daniel Glass just did a write up about Roger Hawkins in the September issue of Drum! He, along with Hal Blain, Earl Palmer, Al Jackson Jr and Bernard Purdie, we're 15 of my favorite drummers.

Re: Name that rhythm

The Cissy Strut beat and the Looka-py-py. What do you call those? Second line? Not really, right. Just Zigaboo beats. He plays them so smooth.

Re: Here's an idea

I think I was that "feral artist" when i was a young drum student. I probably drove my teacher nuts. So naturally talented but in my early teens I just had no focus and desire to put in a lot of...

Re: Don't underestimate your throne height

Last year I lowered my seat height to slightly above a 90 angle. I used to sit quite a lot higher than this. Once I started playing in a band again I was straining to play louder with power and...

Re: Upsetting the band director...

This the reason why I don't put the top felts and wing nuts on cymbal stands. I would promptly take off my crash and repeatedly bash him in the head "1, 2, 3, 4! Am I rushing or dragging now,...

Re: This ever happen? Plus a 5 minute beat

Why did/do Shamans use simple consistent drum patterns to invoke the spirits and travel to other dimensions? Rhythms extremely powerful. It can induce hypnotic, trance-like states. Awesome!

Re: Andy Doerschuk out of action (hopefully temporarily). Healing prayers and thoughts.

I subscribe to Drum! magazine and in the latest issue's editorial essay Andy mentioned handing over the reigns to a new associate editor that they recently hired. I see why now. I really enjoyed...

Re: Help on tuning my Tama Silverstar snare

FYI, I also have that Tama Silverstar birch snare and love it. I can tune the batter low to high and get great sounds out of that drum. I ALWAYS "crank the reso", though.

Re: Help on tuning my Tama Silverstar snare

+1 to this. What I would add is to give those 4 lugs on either side of the snare bed an extra full turn of the key. This alone has solved most of my overtone and sympathetic buzz issues. I really...

Re: 10 prescriptions for productive practice

+1. Two weeks ago I practiced 6 days for 1.5 hrs a day and had a sluggish 2.5 hour rehearsal day with the band. Last week I practiced 3 days for about 1 - 1.5 hrs each and rehearsal was burning! So...

Re: Latest AH HA moment...

That's awesome! I love those Ah HA moments. A recent one for me was gripping a drum key in my left hand tightly in the web between my pointer and middle fingers along with my stick while warming...

Re: How do you not hear your bass drum?

Playing the bass drum with authority! I love that! When I go to see rock or loud music and I hear a drummer with a weak foot and hand (not playing with authority) I really can't take it. Actually,...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

I currently have a 10x8 12x9 16x14 22x18 Silverstar kit and I really don't like the 10x8 tom. That depth and diameter just doesn't work for my band situation. It gets lost in the guitars tuned high...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

I really want a 12x9 13x10 14x12 16x16 18x16 24x14. I really like those slightly deeper toms and the shallow bass drum. The toms have more projection and the bass drum has more punch. It would also...

Works for drumming, though.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

+1 I hate that I gotta buy that 10" thing. That little 10x8 just gets lost in the mix when I play with my band. I can tune it higher but... ugh. No thanks, amigo. Not my cup of tea. I would like...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

+1 I have been arguing over this issue internally for a few weeks. I've come to the conclusion listed above. The song dictates how much or little I play. Even within the same song there will be...
