Re: I think I might have been practicing wrong for a long time..

Well a good teacher always seems the correct default answer, but if you'd rather go it alone then I suggest play along to music-all kinds of music such as that you like and even that you dislike too...

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

Mostly 3 and I take it off and put it in the corner out of frustration, but then get inspired to try again and jump on the 5 train-course I get frustrated and then take the A-train back to 3. If I...

Re: A month and no drums

I love playing every day-very therapeutic. But when I do take a hiatus I feel rejuvenated, feel like I play with ease and better, and feel more creative. Unfortunately other than vacation and being...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

It's the Drumming Bell curve. Every drummer starts with a smaller kit and few cymbals and then build or buy new larger kits with more cymbals and junk (bigger has got to be better), and then finally...

Re: 24" ride with 20" kick drummers.

I have an old 24in Zildjian and play with a 16 in kick. The kick cuts through nicely. If you have your toms tuned high this will blend well too.

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

I forgot we use to have a band snare of my fathers from the 1930's he played when he was a kid. It was up in the attic of their house. I'll have to climb up there and see if I can find it. My Mom's...

Re: Cause of Meter Speeding Up Discovered.

Sometimes your timing is off acoustically. I use to play in a church and behind the kit and close I was right on time, but if you would step into the back it was like milliseconds behind. Recording...

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

My eldest brother has my first Red sparkle 1965 Ludwig I got when I was ten years old. He recently gave me the Zildjian Avedis 24 in cymbal that went with it. I cleaned it up the cymbal and it looks...

Re: I need a bigger car for a bigger kick drum

My wife has a Honda fit that she bought because she could put her bike in the back. . I can't believe how much space there is in such a tiny car when you let down the back seats.

Re: I need a bigger car for a bigger kick drum

Re: Too smart for my friends?

Historical and Systematic musicologist know a lot about music and the science of music. Some really "smart" folks. Most likely don't play an instrument and some likely can't read music. You need to...

Re: In need of some advice..

I'd go for it. Just remember to fit into the music and be prepared. The worse that can happen is you embarrass yourself which isn't the end of the world. I am pretty new to jazz but had some gigs...

Re: What do we think of drummers that deliberately play out of time?

Re: Drumming with newborn baby

Re: Today's Fattest Sounding Kits?

Which drum kits sound fatter? Is it brand like Gretsch or is it how the drums are constructed thin or thick, type wood like mahogany? Seems I remember the kits from the 70's and 80's sounded fatter...

Re: Today's Fattest Sounding Kits?

Everybody has pretty much covered it so keep your present kit, tune em up on the low end, and get some vintage emperor or hydraulic heads (I suggest vintage emperors) and your good to go.

Re: Caroline Corr

Well drummers maybe picky with her playing but I'm sure the other musicians love her. She grooves spot on with the band and the song. Sure you could put a chopped filled twenty minute solo in the...

Re: Well I just dan gun broke my right foot!

I've broken so many bones I've lost count. Some take longer to heal than others and are real sensitive-like I broke my right hand and it would kill me to shake hands. I'd give yourself time to heal...
