Re: Close micing is cheating

I don't think close micing is cheating.

I do think that less CAN BE more at times. Brain from Primus/buckethead/GNR is a great example of this.

Re: What double bass dvd is the best for a gift?

George Kollias Intense Metal Drumming (http://georgekollias.com/) dvd is also great for double bass and metal drumming in general.

Re: Slowly learning to play open handed

part of why I decided from the beginning of my drumming practice that I would play open and also train my left hand to keep time as well as my right is....

if you can't keep steady, even sounding...

Re: Hi-hats playing with left arm?

Just saw Gene Hoglan play with Dethklok last week and I don't think I saw him cross up once!

I also noticed that if he was going back and forth from a crash cymbal on his left to a crash on the...

Re: Developing ambidexterity away from the drums

I never thought of using my left hand for computer mousing. That's a great a idea, and like deathmetalconga mentioned, it can alleviate some of the extra stress those of us with computer jobs put on...

Re: Achieving fast double bass speeds

if you can manage to play the same thing 20 times and not improve at all, you need to work on your listening skills as well as your playing

Re: Achieving fast double bass speeds

great advice Derek. there is also that added bonus of "conquering" the song you set your sights on (I love that!) that really doesn't translate to the metronome stroking.

Re: What was the best advice or tip that improved your drumming?

One piece of advice I found on here was moving my throne closer and adjusting it higher. Did wonders for my footwork and I reach less too.

Also the old standby, you don't need to kill the...

Re: Think you know rythm? Think again!

have you ever listened to birds calling?
dogs barking?
lightning?
rain falling?
fruit falling from trees?

You can hear flams, paradiddles and many other "drum" patterns in those natural sounds.

Re: Doublebass Speed

it's been said by Waterson and Roddy also that there's no substitute for practicing your single foot blast beats. Doing weak foot practice will balance you out so your double bass chops sound much...

Re: Yet another blister complaint

Re: We should all rock the drums this hard

that's the absolute truth. It's amazing how he dominates the performance from the back row and even lip synchs the dramatic vocal parts haha. She might as well stand behind him
