Re: Soundgarden's touring drummer is now Matt C..

IIRC, he was a member of Candlebox in the mid-90s and is now mainly a studio/session player in the Seattle area.

Re: Vinnie ... the drummers drummer

The thing that gets me about Vinnie is his phrasing. Especially on albums like "Thanks to Frank" (not Frank Zappa, but that guitarist who played with him-his full name escapes me): he's off-the-hook...

Re: Was Lars' double-bass on the track Dyers Eve a fraud?

I like Metallica a lot. They wrote some really great tunes in the 80s and 90s (I actually like Load and Reload a lot as well!) But listening to them live these days, combined with the very slow pace...

Re: Nick Menza

Honestly, Dave says that about everyone who is in his band at a particular point in time.

Re: Advice on what songs to play/learn

If you have or are going to get a double bass pedal; learn Motley Crue's "Live Wire." Many a drummer have gotten their basic double bass chops together on that song.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I agree with this; Smith is a rock drummer who plays things with some funk flavor.

That being said, his early work with RHCP sounds great to my ears.

Re: Is it bad to have little or no individuality?

True enough, though there are an awful lot of wannable clones of famous/influential players out there.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Neil Peart is not even close to being the "best" drummer.

And I say that as a Rush fan who's seen them live twice.

Re: groove vs chops?

If you listen closely, it often takes a great deal of technique to groove well. Articulation, beat placement, subtle brushes of the hi-hat, ghost notes, consistency, how clean your playing is, and...

Re: Ian Paice

Definitely one of the better players in that style of music, from that time period.

Good hands, and great swing to his playing.

Re: Tony Williams

IMO, he's one of the most important drummers of all time. A prodigy, an innovator, and truly ahead of his time.

Where to start with VC...man...

It's not just that he was in another universe technically, musically, and rhythmically from the beginning of his professional career.

It's not just that he was a...

Re: Derek Roddy here!

Hey Derek,

What I love about your attitude is that you are willing to play anything from death metal (which you're most known for) to jazz, fusion, and progressive rock, among many other styles!...

Re: Just how much DO drummers make?

I wouldn't be surprised if a solid majority of professional, full-time musicians-including drummers-also have "day jobs."

Re: any love for Topper ?

One of the most underrated drummers ever, IMO.

Always played interesting, musical grooves and fills that were often signature parts of the songs themselves.

Re: Chad Szeliga

Big fan of Chad's as well from the Breaking Benjamin days...nice to see him still groovin' his butt off with BLS.

He and Daniel Adair are two of my favorite contemporary hard rock drummers. Both...
