I've read that Charlie switched to Gretsch in 1968 . Take a look at the cover of GET YOUR YA YAS OUT and you'll see him carrying a black Gretsch bass drum . He played this black kit for a few years...

Prices of new Delites have skyrocketed over the past few years to the point where they are almost as expensive as the new SQ drums that replaced the Designer series . I'd look around for a used...

I was interested in this kit as well , but when I asked the seller on two seperate occasions to send me pics of the worst of the " nicks in the finish " and pitting chrome he never answered me .

In the photo the kit does look like Oyster Black Pearl , but it is in fact Oyster Blue . Sizes are 22/16/13 and it came from the factory with a Supraphonic . I ordered this kit from Caruso's Music...

Actually , the 5.5 Name Band snare IS pictured with the set . The snare all by its lonesome is a 4x14 Max Roach .

I own a 60's Ludwig set as well , and it has served me well for many , many years...

If you are playing jazz go for That Great Gretsch Sound w/ 3 or 6 ply shells and round badge . A very nice condition 20/14/12 kit will set you back more than a Ludwig , Rogers or Slingerland would in...

The Delites feature 9 ply bass & snare drums / 6 ply toms + 3 ply reinforcement rings called " Dynamic Edge " . The 9 ply shells are 6.3mm thin ; the 6 ply 4.2mm .

I never said that Yamaha's products were not made well . I just prefer to buy my drums from a " drum company " .

Technically speaking , Yamaha does not make their own drums , SAKAE RHYTHM in Osaka does . They are the " subcontractor " if you will .

They also make pianos , motorcycles , ICs , home electronics , etc..etc...Huge company , which kind of turns me off a bit . I want to buy my drums from a DRUM company .

Never played a Yamaha kit that didn't sound good - even their budget kits . That said , they ain't perfect . I've had issues with pitted chrome plating after a couple of years and defective strainers...
