Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Still looking for both a Russ Miller Groove Wedge and/or a Cascara Wedge. If anyone can spare them, I can make a reasonable offer.

Re: How are drums recorded for a song?

Be ready for anything. I always sing to myself and can do it alone (assuming there's no room for improv), but it's nice to have someone play the skeleton of the song (assuming they can play to a...

It's great that you're cognizant of being too aggressive. That said, if you know you play too loud, then stop doing so. Work on playing more relaxed and at a manageable volume level on your own time,...

Re: Jazz comping speed - wrist/finger

Honestly, go back to basics: look at your hands, get a teacher to help, play relaxed, etc. Try not to think of phrasing when comping as individual notes; phrase notes together in gestures where one...

Re: Can't seem to play fast

To the original poster: people don't keep gigs for playing stupidly fast. Learn how to groove and play comfortably…speed comes, and should only be used when absolutely needed.

Re: Are there fewer demands for a drummer now, than before?

There's just less demand for live music, in general, these days.

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

Smile, try and fit in, and put a dollar bill on the music stand.

Re: Past a point, are teachers necesssary?

I'm a firm believer that everyone needs a teacher. Those who think they don't are the ones that don't actually get anywhere, you'll find.

Re: DW news

Can't say that I did. I'm perfectly happy with my current pedals and don't need a nuclear blast-proof pedal set up.

Re: DW news

The only thing more idiotic than spending $1000 on pedals is generalizing people who buy a product because you choose not to.

Re: Focusing on finger control or wrist control?

The shoulder, elbow, arm, wrist, and fingers all work together to produce strokes. Focus on everything.

Re: Big Band drum thread.

I'd say that's a gross generalization. I've seen both charts with nearly nothing in them and charts that were extremely difficult.

Re: Peter Erskine moves to Tama...

Another change! Oh man, he changes endorsements faster than anyone I've seen. Wonder if Tama will spend a few years on a travel kit for him.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I've found that sexist comments regarding drumming are usually due to ones own short comings.

Volume is directly due to velocity and stick weight, not arm density or torso strength. I recommend...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

Best way I've found is to find the weak points and develop exercises to work on them. For instance, if I'm having problems phrasing 16th notes over a rolling triplet foot pattern, I'll take the first...

Re: Sight Reading help please

Reading is something you have to learn to do, regardless of what your intentions are in the future. Here's my $0.02.
