Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

Haha, Good point on the phone, But I don't own 4 other phones. I use my phone every day for many reasons and it would be tough to preform day to day tasks without it. I would also never replace it if...

Re: Latency using superior drummer 3

Check the Edrum forums for starters.

things like using ASIO drivers.

setting the sample rate and bitrate lower.

making sure you have a good CPU / Memory and are not maxing out.

Having a...

Re: Canít hear my kick!

Tune it a bit higher. the low end gets lost when you jam with a band.. if you can hear your snares and toms it's the bottom that gets lost.

I have not been able to hear snare and toms.. THAT is...

Re: Help with hand pain, stiffness

My hands are often stiff when it's cold especially.

I tend to warm up on a pad for 30 minutes pre show now. starting slow and light, working my way up to fast.. it makes a big difference.

Re: How do YOU Tune?

Tunebot about 99% of the time and my drums always sound good. If they don't the heads are most likely dead. I use the online tunebot calculator and go for medium resonance.

It depends on the sound...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

In regards to tuning for the front of house.. If you have mics, tune your kit, put in some IEMS / headphones and listen. I'll sometimes even tune with the mics on and the IEM's in... get it close...

Re: Time away from kit

I often am on the other side of the fence for this. If you are dedicated, log your practice/bpm's etc. and REALLY work on your rudiments this can be a good thing sometimes.

I spent about 3...

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

I improvise a lot when writing with the band. I'll usually get a look when something is defiantly not going to stay haha. I'll also get a look, smile, nod when something fits well. Then I may try...

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

If my band is playing a gig.. We have rehearsed these songs 100's if not 1000's of times.. If I start improvising the band mates would not love that. Tossing in a new chop or modulation thing I am...

Re: Independence advice?

Write it out and play it slow.. Follow along with notation and repeat it OVER AND OVER. It will come in time

Re: DFO hacked again

Google works rather than an old thread, especially on one that makes no sense.

Just went there. It's 100% fine. I've posted a few videos of my metal band with great responses there. It wasn't a...

Re: Are Pearl MCX toms and kicks just as good as their snare drums?

With coated heads tuned right, and the proper rims too they can be pretty warm, but I think there are other kits if you are looking for a VERY warm sound that would work better in this area.

Re: What should I do when the gains I've made from practicing have plateaued?

As a very logical person the "just play music" approach didn't work for me as well. I do play along to music, but playing stuff I would have never thought of, and stuff from books, and repetition of...

New to me toy.

Picked up a Breakbeats kit cheap used. I am super impressed with the toms on this kit and for a 16 kick it actualy sounds quite good. It's mostly for practice but I could see myself taking this to...

Re: What should I do when the gains I've made from practicing have plateaued?

Videotaping your self is always a great way to knock yourself down a peg and see your flaws. haha. I'll do that from time to time, no click trying to keep good time and do a bit of everything. I...

Re: What should I do when the gains I've made from practicing have plateaued?

If your goal is to work on solid time an exercise like an hour of 1/4 notes might be ok, personally for me, that wouldn't be motivating. On the other side. I can play on a pad for 2 hours straight....

Re: Thinking about dropping back down from a 26" bass drum to a 22" bass drum.

I think you will LOVE the 22 personally. So much punch, you can hear it better, better rebound.

I must say I am kindof over virgin kicks... Having toms mounted is so much better for cymbal stand...

Re: What should I do when the gains I've made from practicing have plateaued?

My music requires speed and chops, so while I plateau, I don't quit working on the pad stuff.. If I take too long off my speeds drop, but it comes back fast.

One thing that helps is for pad stuff...

Re: Are Pearl MCX toms and kicks just as good as their snare drums?

I have a Pearl MCX in 8,10,12,14,16 toms with a 20 kick. I love it.. punchy with some heads, warm with others. Coated sounded great on it, but I tend to use dual ply toms. It is easy to tune and...

Re: Well, that escalated quickly!

Hahaha makes for a good story in a few years at least.

I know SoulTone was doing that along with a few other smaller boutique cymbal/stick/drum companies... Basically endorse anyone that asks... They will give them a discount off of a SUPER inflated...

Re: Heel bouncing on the hi-hat pedal

very common technique. it's a great way to keep time without playing an instrument or having the hats make noise... Also helps build that left foot independence and it's easy to switch to time on...

Re: Doubles around the kit

I really agree with the EVERY surface comment... I have about 4 or 5 pads I use that all feel different. Prologix blue lighting is my favorite because it has minimal rebound. Similar to a floor...

Re: Doubles around the kit

Oh man, i love inverted doubles and diddles.

You mean while playing they are crossed? they shouldn't be while doing doubles.

Try positioning your hats further forward or your snare further back...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

In response to a few of these things.

New, inexperienced, or just drummers who are not as good tend to have a huge issue when you pull that tom away.. It's a half comfort thing, have experience...
