Echoing what others have said here but you've got to find a way to relax.

Soon as you relax, it's so much more enjoyable for you and the audience.

One thing I found relaxing was that...

Re: Tuning

I think the trouble is when you start out you don't know what the 'sweet spot' is, I myself still can't seem to tune a tom very well, instead relying on moongel to cover my inefficiencies.

Re: Showmanship

I share the same problem, I'm often told I just look bored when I'm playing. My main plan is to try and mouth the words as we play, to look like I'm aware I'm playing in a band and not just sat on my...

Re: Band Construction.

Me and some friends had all played instruments, individually, when we were younger and got drunk one night and had a discussion about playing together sometime for a laugh.

Two years later and...

Nothing :(

Re: Advice on IEMs

Does anyone wear these for the usual, run of the mill pub gig?

I'm tempted but I fear I'd feel a bit of a plonker wearing these in a pub gig.

Re: Quick question on Gary Chaffees "Sticking Patterns"

D = Double?

That was a massive guess, I have no idea.

Re: Seeing bad bands

Telling jokes is fine if the person doing it is funny but not in your face, say a little quip about a bandmember. Just shows people are having fun.

Re: Open Mic NIght...A scary thing

You only live once (cliche alert!) so just do what you want to do and have fun doing it.

Re: Seeing bad bands

Although I agree with what's been said in this thread, I recently played a small gig (new band) to a couple of hundred people and when we'd finished, we had a couple of guys who I noticed were...

Re: Loss of too many drum shops in the UK

GAK in Brighton (Large selection of drums/cymbals and really nice staff)
Hobgoblin (Canterbury store has small choice of Dream cymbals and kits)

Online, Rockem music and DrumShop are two good...

Re: Man was i disappointed.

I'm at work so I can't go on Youtube to find the link, but isn't there a video where they're in the studio and Lars is continually messing up, not even able to hold down a bread and butter beat? You...

Re: What to do with a spare snare

My main snare has an Evans G1 batter, and a Remo Emperor bottom? (forgotten the word for it!) head, so I'm thinking for the side snare the same heads again but just really tighten the thing up?

What to do with a spare snare

When I bought my Mapex kit, I had a Black Panther snare already and it's my preferred weapon of choice, however I've got this spare snare now that I just don't know what to do with. I'd quite like to...

Re: Does anyone ever mess with your gear?

My bands singer has an annoying habit of leaning on my cymbals or standing there spinning them when she's talking to me.

She's only 17 (we're 24) so I try and not be too harsh on her but when...

Re: Days where you can't play anything

As we practice at night, the last hour I'm just too hot/tired and I go to pieces, really frustrating but I know there's nothing I can do about it.

Re: Which snare to buy?

Black Panther snares are a good shout too, I have the Black Widow and it has a really sharp crack to it.

Re: Would you pay for a drum rehersal room

I wish there was something like this available to me here in the UK, I've tried google and gumtree but no success.

Re: Nerves before and during a gig

It's funny, I'm nervous when playing a gig but I never used to get nervous when I was entering skate competitions, performing to the same amount of viewers (plus more when the videos used to hit the...

Re: A beginner's question..help please!

Completely agree to Bad Tempered, but I'd also add that you should enjoy the song you're playing too, find a song you like to listen to, the song you find yourself tapping along too and try and play...
