Re: Billy Cobham: My Concept is My Own

What an amazing kit! Such a change to see one without all the glittery chrome. I want one!

Is he left handed or does he just like his drums the other way round?

Re: Shooting for a 50's sounding snare! Any advice?

Now you mention it, didn't a lot of them use felt damping strips under the head?

Re: Who "invented" the rock beat?

I'll take a gamble and say it was whoever backed Elvis.
If you look at the type of music then being played it was all jazz, blues and swing. Some of those numbers are 8 to the bar anyway and so it...

Re: stick in the eye anyone? not for the meek!

Re: Where can I get a snare weight?

These are for women.
They are so that women can buy their men a small useful present for the drum kit. Men being the nice chaps they are receive it gratefully and use it in order to please her.

Re: Where to go after playing on cruise ships?

I would say build for the future while still having a ball.
With a little careful management you can do both. I think you should study music formally and get some credentials on paper. Because what...

Re: How do you characterize the sound of steel?

I have an Ian Paiste snare and two things impress me about it. One is it is very heavy, it's a thick walled very solid drum.
The other thing is that it is amazingly versatile in the tuning. With a...

Re: The Drum Solo

In this country the Big Solo is a signal for everyone to head for the bar or outside for a smoke.
Solos are just not well liked. Unless you happen to be Ginger Baker of course...

Re: Leaving my drums in a humid place, what can I do?

I would put them in polythene bags along with some dessicant packs. So long as the bags are sealed it will all be fine.

Re: Help For An Old Rock Drummer

I have one of those. It works very well and lets you change the configuration of the kit at a moments notice.

It takes a little bit of pre-planning to work out when to smack the lever without...

Re: Any tips for 'useful fidgeting'?

I'm a chronic foot tapper. If there is no music to tap to I make my own.
I nearly got turned off a bus once because the tapping was distracting the driver. Single stroke roll, putting the accents...

Re: Where do you place your drums in your room?

Makes a big difference if you have a room full of people. In a small bar or pub you can get a wall to wall audience on the same level as you. It just sucks up the sound and makes it completely...

Re: How often do you practice? For how long?

It's been an interesting thread and I am surprised at how much time some people put into it. But addiction is always fun, isn't it? I have always been a compulsive foot and finger tapper, I will tap...

Re: Yamaha 9000 versus Maple Absolute.

I have played both and I like them both in their own way. I was told the 9000 is the most recorded kit in history.
