Re: My Kit Build Begins!

That is a great shot. Could be used in a Triumph catalog.

Re: Annoying store experience.

I just went through a similar experience of buying a bunch of new gear after a drumming hiatus of a few years. I also went into a local independent music store, and got a similar attitude from the...

Re: Billy Cobham in Hollywood tonight!

I see he's still playing those huge kits. Sweet. Sounds like a great show. I love that Gary Husband was playing keys. How cool is that?

Like you, I have piano regrets. I basically abandoned the...

1950s NYC: A Drummer's Paradise

I was watching a Roy Burns interview on youtube and was really struck by his stories about moving to NYC in the late 50's. If I could go back in time...

Re: Get off your drummer's throne and

I've been accessing this forum for a long time, years before my join date indicates. It seems noticeably less active now than in years past. I wonder if this is my perception or if it's truly quieter...

Re: Should I convert 14" and 16" toms to floor toms?

I did this very recently. Made a thread about it too:
http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124152

I originally had a RIMS Dynamount (cradle type thing). Didn't like it at all....

Re: NOTHING TO FEAR but fear itself...

Honestly, if I had your kit, I would be hesitant also. Such a beautiful finish. This is why I decided to go with a wrap finish. There not as pretty as wood finishes, but they're still good looking...

Re: Injury stories while drumming

A few years back, I went to a Peaches show. In the middle of one song, she went crowd-surfing. I guess someone in the crowd took advantage of the situation and groped her, because she suddenly...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

I think it was just a misplaced word. Replace "intelligent" with "knowledgeable" and he has a point. Modern day scientists, for example, have a much greater understanding of the universe and much...

Re: Alan Wren

Big Reni fan here. I love his playing style, and he was a partial influence for me going with a 3-piece setup. Not going to get into an absurd argument about who is the "best" drummer, because I...

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

You might want to try setting up like they do in the video posted above (although it cuts off early). I put my kit together in the same sequence, which I just naturally started doing after years of...

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

I like how you picked up the cymbals first, and in Istanbul no less. Solid choice on the drums as well. Best of all is that you bought everything based on what you thought sounded best. I think...

Re: The big debate: tribute bands - yay or nay!?

I sure won't argue with that reasoning. I also think there is a similar reason that affects people in every country, even the United States. Concert tickets for A-list bands like U2 have become...

Re: Anybody rockin 13-16-20?

Sacrilege? I hope not. I use a 20 kick and a 15 floor. No rack tom at the moment, but if I add one in, I've already decided it's going to be a 13, so I'd have 13-15-20. I also toyed with the idea of...

Re: Little Kits

I'm intrigued by Tama's Cocktail-Jam kit, but don't have any experience with it.

Re: Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Out of curiosity, I checked their Yelp reviews. One of the most recent entries sounds a lot like my experience. I wonder if he got the same sales guy.

"I purchased a pair of Vics 5a's drumming...

Re: First time drilling a shell

Pearl feet are installed, and basically, yeah they work. It's instantly noticeable on the first hit. Significantly more resonant now. With a bit of muscle applied, the feet slid right onto my 10.5mm...

Re: Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Yeah, both of the guys working the counter were young and totally uninterested in me. The thing that burned me the most is I could have been out of there in less than 5 minutes if I were just allowed...

Re: Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Not impressed with Starving Musician Berkeley. I recently went in there looking for a part and won't be returning. I was simply looking for a memory lock. I even brought the piece for it to fit on so...

Ah, you're right about that. The crash happened longer ago than I remembered. Perhaps it was more of a "first straw." Judging from his words in this article, it sounds like city life (like the crash)...

I'll be your first customer.

As for Adato, I'm sure economics had something to do with the move, but the "last straw" was an SUV crashing into his store....
