I have played latin songs and would play both patterns and one would sound better and feel better with the melody than the other. Melody determines which pattern to use.

Big leaf mahogany warm low mid range tones, ash hard wood sharp attack, strength stiffness, adds a little brightness than just mahogany alone. I am working on pictures for my kit.
