Re: Are Drummers (Generally) Crazy?

Some drummers look like they're crazy when they play. I think of drummers as being cool rather than crazy.

Re: (The) Drum - She or He?

I don't know if they are she or he? I refer to my drums as them, they, or set. That way there remains a certain mystery to it.

Re: What the audience hears

Yes it should matter more what they hear than what we hear. I've had it go the other way. What sounded like a great tuned kit behind it sounded like crap in front of it.

Re: Drummers that overplay

Re: Let's talk soloing, again.

Even though we play a percussive instrument rather than a melodic instrument there is a structure to follow. Most drum solos have a beginning-the intro, middle-the body, and end-the climax. Having...

Re: Let's talk soloing, again.

Yes the band is taking a que from the drummer. Look at videos of Louie Bellson and Buddy Rich and see what they did at the end of their solos and you'll see what we mean larryace.

Re: Best sticks for traditional grip?

They don't make different sticks for different grips or certain grips. In chooseing sticks you should go by what feels comfrotable in your hands. I like thinner, lighter sticks as opposed to thicker,...

Re: Drums easier than other instruments?

Yes and no. To learn enough to make sounds and play a basic 4/4 beat that really doesn't take much time. To develop speed, endurance, steady time, 4 limb independence, coordination, feel, and stick...

Re: Pink Floyd

One of the best bands EVER!

Best concert I have ever seen was PF at the Pontiac Silver Dome. The sound and light show was amazing. They played the entire "Dark Side of the Moon".

Re: Are Drummers (Generally) Crazy?

I think Keith Moon was. Seriously, most drummers are aggressive, out going people. I wouldn't say they were crazy. I have seen drummers who look like they are crazy when they are playing.

No...

The cost of a top of the line 8 piece drum set? 3k-5k
The cost of top of the line Hi-hat, ride, two or three crashes, splash, cymbals? $2500
The cost of the pleasure I get from drumming? priceless.

Re: Your parents' attitude towards your drumming

My parents were totally against it. They wondered why I didn't want to play a real instrument. They thought the drums were nothing but nosie and not music. They refused to buy me a set so I had to...

Yea I wondered out Alex reaches those outer BDs also. He must have a special pedal setup or really long legs.
