Re: Ludwig Snare - Brass, Acrolite, or Clone?

I agree. Pearl Sensitone is a very nice snare. The Acs are good too and can be had for 100-150.

Technique or pedal?

A friend of mine asked me to learn a song by STP titled Plush. Easy enough, seems pretty straight forward. Put on the song to play along and noticed that I was having a somewhat diffucult time doing...

I'm thinking of getting a new kit and I'm interested in looking for something different. Can anyone here give me their opinions on Oak drums. How do they sound? Do they sound more like maple or...

Re: Gretsch Renown or Tama Starclassic B+B

Well there you go. Buy with your ears. Tune the kits and play them both.

Re: Gretsch Renown or Tama Starclassic B+B

I've played both. My pick would be the Tama BB. Great sounding versatile kit. Not that the Gretsch is bad. Tama gets my vote. I play Pearl...

Gavin Harrison?

I recently saw a Gavin Harrison performance on youtube and he was a playing to a tune that was very similar to an old Modern Drummer sound supplement by Jeff Porcaro. Gavin titled it Slippin Away....

Re: DW at Best Buy

I went to a BB here in IL that had a musical instrument department and it may not be set up like a GC or SA but the prices were comparable and they will beat or match any price. Like my post before,...

Re: intermediate kits vs. high end

It is especially true in terms of tuning. I agree with the majority of the comments here. You get what you pay for. Better shells=better sound. Not better hardware=better sound.

Re: What Brand DrumSet is used by most Pro's?

Another Chicagoan here.

Just wanted to say GMS makes great drums, expensive for Keller shells. If you like GMS I say go for it. I don't think you are able to get a GMS kit for 3K. Again they are...

Re: Shallow Floor Toms

What type of music are playing? Going with shallower sizes will give you a faster response but will lose some of the boominess you also desire.

Re: Dw's or Pearl Reference

I'd go refs. They sound great and looks great. The DW's are also great but the lugs are hideous.

Re: Buddy Rich on Bonham

I can see JB being a fan of BR but not the other way around. I love both drummers and I really don't think BR cared too much about JB's talent. Lots of JB grooves and style cam from Jazz. My flame...

Re: Playing with shoes on...

I wear running shoes as well when I practice and play. I did notice that Neil Peart and Steve Smith wear dancing shoes which is something that Freddy Gruber apparently taught them.

He says it himself that even after 40 years of playing, he is still learning. Especially 4 limp independence.

What I admire about NP is his approach to drumming. He is perfect for Rush. As Ringo...
