Re: Yamaha Drums

To be honest, I also cannot imagine that Yamaha is going to offer the regular YESS as an option without extra costs.

@MusiQmaN:

Do you know where I can get hold of the new price list? When...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yes, they will be discontinued. I wouldn't have a problem with that if Yamaha wasn't also ruining the Absolutes with the new YESS and the new lugs (thank God you can still have the Absolute lugs).

Re: Yamaha Drums

Oh I think they would.

And I do see a difference here:

Re: Yamaha Drums

Right on the money. That's what I thought, too. Why didn't they come up with a mixture of Nouveau and PHX lugs? Well, I guess there's the answer right there: They probably simply chose consistency...

Re: Yamaha Drums

This is EXACTLY THE FINISH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! I'd sell my Vintage Natural for that! I always admired the Reference Shimmer of Oz finish, but this is WAY BETTER! Honestly, I told my girlfriend the...

Re: Bill Stewart's Snare & Setup

Well, I recently checked out the Dry Complex Ride 2 in 24" - it blew me away! Didn't like the 22" though. They got nothing to do with the original DCR, but the DCR2 is a great addition to the DCR1...

Re: Sonor Bass depths?

Maybe they don't want to scare away the few clear-thinking drummers left who think that a depth of 18" is senseless and kills tone. But since 16" or 14" doesn't sell these days they came up with this...

Re: Bill Stewart's Snare & Setup

Hi folks,

does anybody have an idea of the cymbals used on John Scofield's "This and That"? Among others Bill uses a cymbal with rivets which has a more woody ping and sounds great. Any info would...

Re: My new Yamaha MCA: Is this normal?

Thanks again for the comments. Unfortunately, my drum dealer is on vacation until the end of the week, but his colleague told me not to worry about the three (or four) weeks.

Greetz,
d.

Re: My new Yamaha MCA: Is this normal?

Thanks for your replies.

It's really sad. I would not have expected this from Yamaha. Tomorrow I will show the kit to my dealer and ask him what can be done about this. As was said before, I want...

My new Yamaha MCA: Is this normal?

This is the bassdrum of my brandnew MCA - but as you can see on the pictures there are quiet a few scratches on it... Is this normal for a new set? Or should I complain?
Is it due to the Vintage...

Re: 20" bass drum

Funny, because to me Yamahas feel - if at all - like jazz drums. At least that's what I associate Yamahas with.

BTW, sorry for my above post, which might have sounded a bit rude.

Greetings,...

Re: 20" bass drum

WHAT?!

1. What's wrong with Yamaha? They make "pop kits" but no "rock kits"? We're assigning brands to styles of music now? Wow, never heard of that!
2. Why not? Maple and Birch are pretty...

Re: Why aren't more people playing BIG bass drums?

20x16 is for me.

I like the sound,
I like the feel,
I like the looks.

20x18 is ok, too.

Simple.

Re: IM ABOUT TO ORDER MY KIT... NEED HELP!!!

Which is a completely different thing. A larger diameter will make the general tone of the drum lower. Depth only adds deep frequencies to the general tone of the drum.

Re: IM ABOUT TO ORDER MY KIT... NEED HELP!!!

It is most pobably the EQ. You can make a badass metal kick out of a 20x16 if you want to. Don't let appearances fool you. It may be that I'm a bit older and therefore cannot really see the point in...

Re: IM ABOUT TO ORDER MY KIT... NEED HELP!!!

I wouldn't order a 20x20 kick.

I know these discussions are getting a bit boring but you will lose punch if you take that deep a size. 20x18 should be the absolute maximum, regardless of the kind...

Billy Cobham/Elvin Jones Signature Snares

Hey everybody,

listening to Marcus Baylor playing with the Yellowjackets I fell in love with the Elvin Jones Signature Snare (14x7 Maple, 7 ply, woodhoops). I just love those fat rimshots and the...

Re: Ultimate Jazz Kit

That's funny, because this IS the kit I am going to order within the next days...! Sizes will be 18x16 (not 16x18 like in the ad), 10x8, 14x14 (or 14x13). I prefer the 10x8 over the 12x8, dunno why....
