Need a Snare for Studio Next Week!!

Hello,

I've been out of the drum loops for quite some time. Started with this new band recently and we're hitting the studio next week.

I was wondering what kind of snare I should be using...

Re: double bass question (please help)

I've been doing the whole double-bass pedal stuff for awhile, so maybe my two cents here will help you out.

You have a balance question if I'm correct, and you're wondering whether or not to use...

Re: TRAK drums

Indeed, I believe that one issue can account for all of those issues raised... the plywood vs pressed wood issue... something that I have already addressed!

Now can you see my confusion to why I...

Re: TRAK drums

bighaibigdrums - I didn't insult you. Obviously, you are STILL not reading my posts correctly, so I'll try to point something out to you.

What I did was provide a possible explanation to why you...

Re: TRAK drums

I truly do see where the confusion lies...

I was mistaken. I used the wrong terminology. When I said plywood, I meant pressed wood....

Re: TRAK drums

I guess I can see how you drum guru's are bashing me. And I apologize if I offended you.

However, insults, and trying to put someone on the spot isn't truly something that mature person would do....

Re: TRAK drums

Hmmm... not much. Depends on the company, and the wood. However, as a general rule, in terms of loudness, a 3 ply shell would be less loud than that of a a 6 ply.
Is that satisfactory for you? ...

That's why it's an entry level kit.

Re: TRAK drums

My first kit was a Trak.

No, they're not good. You cannot record a CD with them, or even a solid demo. They are useful if you don't have a lot of money, and are starting out. If you have a lot...

Re: Mike Portnoy

I saw him last night here in Montreal. Guys, he is not underated.

Seriously though, he may not have the most complex chops of all metal drummers out there, but he is perfectly on time and...

Re: Chris Adler

As The Places Burn is my favortie Lamb of God CD. The drumming in every song just kicks like crazy. "For Your Malice" for me is the song you just have to listen to before playing hockey, or any...

Re: Abe Cunningham

He is pretty smooth.

Passenger is an awesome song off of White Pony. Indeed, that whole album rocks off of all thier other ones (IMO).

Re: Do you sing while playing?

Sometimes. I cant sing to everything I play, but for a few tunes I have vocal parts (refering to my band).

I just sometimes grunt loudly. If I'm doing a fast roll or something and resolve it...

I usually play with my shoes on. They're kinda like loafers, but not. Merrell's I think they're called...

Anyways, they dont have laces which rocks! They've got a good grip and are also pretty...

Re: Joey Jordison

Joey isnt at all a bad drummer. I think he just gets smashed a lot because he is in a highly publicized band, and a lot of the younger crowd havent had the 'experience' of discovering other durmmers...

He went pro @ 14 with the Vandals!

I have a whole article on him in Modern Drummer Mag from a couple years back. If anyone wants it, I'll scan it and email it!

Re: Best drumming album of all time?

This is for sure a toughy...

Death - Symbolic. I think this album further pushed the idea of extreme drumming. As a result, I'd say its up there with the best.

p.s. - Gene Hoglan is...

Re: Double Bass

I'd have to agree with the Flo comment AND the dude from Nile. On the new Nile, I think the speeds are something like 250-270 bpm....

Marc.

p.s. - Cool Flo Vid. :D

Re: Double Bass Chops

I say play triplets with the metronome. Overall, it helps your single stroke (probably what you'll be using most of the time) as well as your tightness. I find in the begining, I started playing...

Its funny how you a few of you guys love his double bass stuff. Every interview I see of him, he always says his 'weak' point is his double bass drumming!

The guy is awesome though. Many of his...

Talking Re: Who is your favorite drummer(s)

Josh Freese.

This guy is an under-rated drum lord.

BTW, for you Cryptopsy/Flo Mournier fans...

My jam room is right next to them in Montreal!!!
