Re: Marching drummers

I marched through Junior high and HS, mostly snare, had one year on Bass. I then went probably about 4 years before I picked up sticks again, I got a Set while I was in the Marines, my old boss was...

Re: Take It Easy by The Eagles

I was going to argue with you, in that the measures sound like a cut time 2/4 (I think that's right), with one measure ending in 5/8, hence where everyone else is counting a 9/8 could still be...

Re: Blisters.

Hard hitting isn't always the exact cause of blisters, itís more of a catalyst. Loose grips at friction points would be the real cause. If you're a hard hitter, try holding the sticks a little...

Re: Frustration

I never used to think much of that warming up...I'd just jump on the set and go for a song or 10. I'd feel fatigue that I just figured was because I don't play enough, and just played through the...

Re: Small kit

I'll agree with both sides of the fence...however my personal preference is the more the merrier. It's more fun for me to create sounds and feels when I have more material options at my disposal. I...

Re: Just got the sack!

Communication was lacking...but then, they felt what they did was right for the band, and it's a tough break for you. Do you know how many world class drummer's have been cut from bands, only to go...

Re: Anybody Marching This Season?

I havn't marched for almost 20 years...but I remember some of the times we had, and all the hard work we put in. Enjoy those times my friends...because when it's over, you'll have some very fond...

Re: Playing before a famous band...

I just checked out the myspace page...damn, I was very impressed with the entire sound...I can't remember when a flute could rock like that since Jethro Tull...kick a$$! Great sound from the band. ...

Re: making a living playing in a band full time

The best analogy I ever heard was when a guy was talking about up-and-coming basketball stars in HS and College, and their chances of actually playing professional ball in the NBA…there’s something...

Re: Drum Lesson Cancellations

When you're 15, things like this don't make much sense. Go out, start a business, and see how important a reliable income becomes...then you'll have a better appreciation for why a cancellation...

Re: Drum Lesson Cancellations

I like the idea of charging them upfront for the week/month. In that if they refuse, you can simply refer them to the negligent attendance record, and you just want to be firm with a policy which...

Re: Still just don't get it.

Drums are not like a guitar, that has to be tuned frequently. Just tune them up too playable pitches, and check them out every once in awhile. Shouldn't take more than about 20 minute initially ...

Re: Still just don't get it.

I'm with you. I've been to several stores, and either they stack all the drums up, set them up on an elevated riser, or as you mentioned, leave them tuned like crap with crap heads. Like you said,...

Re: Practise at work?

For some people the lunch hour is there to unwind, gets them fresh for the rest of the day, if drumming loosens me up, that's gravy... I think you're also a bit over presumptuous about the...

What are you talking about, the thumbs up grip? Hey, if the guy can play that fast with an unconventional grip, There's nothing wrong with that.

In fact, most tympani players use the thumbs up...

Re: sticks breaking in the middle: wrong technique?

Have you ever seen the Ahead sticks? They're nylon the whole way down except the grip, even have nylon tips on the but end if you were to flip the sticks around. They come with replacement sheaths....
