Re: Ever had a trainwreck?

I have nothing but trainwrecks!

I'm playing Summertime Blues. Last song of a 2 hour thing. Just me and the guitarist/vocalist. We play the first chorus and I totally butcher the fill-out....

Re: Ludwig maple 8X14 vs Gretsch USA Custom Maple 8X14

Definitely the Luddy. It's gonna be basically the same drum but cost much less. You can get Die cast hoops later. The throw off on the Ludwig is still pretty good. Go for it. Post pics!

Re: how do you feel?

A story from my very limited personal experience.

Awhile back a singer-songwriter that I know asked me if I wanted to lay some drum tracks for an Demo/EP he is doing. I've always thought that he...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

For me. I'd rather he just use them for the songs they were made for. For instance Red Sector A. That song would sound just plain wrong with acoustic drums IMO.

As far as the drumsolos go, I...

I disagree. That looks stupid. You're stupid.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

I don't really mind them but I prefer when everything was acoustic. It's like he had a laboratory of sound on stage. Especially during the Hemispheres era.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

From what I've seen, it's mostly people saying that they understand his talent but his playing doesn't move them particularly.

It's like Keith Moon. That guy was influential beyond belief. Most...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

He recorded "Malignant Narcissism" off of "Snakes and Arrows" on a four piece kit, although, you can't really tell from listening to it.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

C'mon guys. There is no reason for this stupid arguing crap. We all like different music. So what?

Although, I'd show Matt a little more respect. He is a upstanding member of this board and a...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

That's purely a difference of opinion. Led Zeppelin songs are complete jams. The excitement of listening to Zep live was in the imperfections. For them, music existed as the sum of the moment it was...

Re: My Acrolite's arriving in the morning . . .

They're great drums. Even sounds good with my crummy tuning.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

I don't think that anybody is questioning Neil Peart's personal fortitude. It's not like they're saying: "I don't like his drumming. I also think he eats babies and strangles kittens for fun." You...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

For me, I prefer his Avedis Zildjians that he was using until R30. I've played on some paragons and they are a tad clangy for my taste. They sound good in arenas but in bedrooms? Not as much.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

You think this place is bad? Just check out some of the Rush fan forums. The things that people say about him on there, you wouldn't believe.

I don't feel like Neil gets disrespect around here....

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

He uses Sabian Brilliant Paragon Cymbals that he had alchemy symbols printed on.

I happen to be a pretty big fan of the chrome Slingerlands he used back in 74. I don't know why I like those so...

Re: Playing like Moon the loon?

See but, Neil has described Keith as an influence on his playing. You can hear some of Moon's influence on Peart's playing especially in the crazy fills. Neil is clearly way more precise, but the...

Re: Bass Riff to add a drum track to - I'm the X-Judge

I'd love to try this, but currently I have no way to mix my drumming with the bass file.

If I get that part figured out, I'll be sure to post my weak efforts.

Re: School me on drum heads

There are no "good" drumheads (Thats because they're all good, just for different applications). For the most part your Remos, Evans, Aquarians and Attacks will all be pretty much equal in quality...

Re: Do you think

I'm fat as hell, but I'm relatively tall too so it kinda balances out. I used to be Catholic but now I'm Agnostic.

I think that my lack of playing ability dictates my style more than weight or...

Re: Hey Bermuda , did you see this ?

This is completely unrelated, but I just wanted to say that UHF is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever.

Just figured I'd throw that out there.
