Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple Series

I've had my Catalina Maple for 2years already.
They are OK sounding drums. The snare's pretty decent. Love the 10" tom too.

The quality of the shells and hardware are pretty bad for $700. I've...

Re: Sell the New Classics and get a Stave?

are you certain? I've heard some samples of the New classics and those drums really sing. They're some of the best I've heard yet, not that I've heard a lot.

Re: gretsch moving to china? ???

Got the catalina maple in amber finish. Looks beautiful if you ask me. Quality issues, year. its got that.

1) tom holder can barely hold the 12" tom
2) bearing edge on 14" and 16" are pretty bad...

a question...

are recordings, or at least most of them (like for example DreamTheater) click perfect? I play along with a click but I still either slow down or speed up after a few seconds and...

Re: music theory: a necessity for drummers

I disagree. I hear a lot of people saying these, and these are people who don't know much about music theory and didn't havIe formal lessons. And it really shows in their playing. The guys I know...

Re: Dry, warm, full, and a nice solid crack?

MusiciansFriend has a DD Drum Canadian maple at 13x7. ITs got die cast hoops and only costs $160. Man, sometimes I wish I live in the US so I could order those cheap drums.

Re: Sonor Force 3007

those are improvements over the 3005 alright. I have no probs with non-die cast hoops either. As long as they aren't warped, they're goodl

Re: foot technique

i think 200-240 is my limit for pure singles heels down. A bit faster than that I do toe-drop. Earlier today I did some kind of heel up and was just shaking my leg. I was doing like 400+ per min,...

Re: foot technique

Could be that your pedal is slow. try adjusting it. My pedal is a gibraltar 5600 series and its slow and pretty heavy. However, i've played other gibs of the same model and they feel much smoother,...

Re: HELP: Catalina maple vs. catalina ash

its been a while since my last posts. Lately, i've grown to love my Catalina Maple kit more and more. I've replaced the G2 heads on 10 and 12" with stock.. YES, STOCK!

I think it sounds better...

Re: what should i practise?

is this method effective? I mean, 15 minutes on something is just not enough. Wouldn't it be better if 1 day = 5-10 min warmup, 50 min on something?

Re: Premier Signia or Sonor Force 3005

oh yeah, its most probably going to ring with 1 ply heads, but in a good way. Well, it will probably go "boing" depending on how you tune it.

Re: Drum sizes....Sonic match??

a 14x14 drum is already pretty hard to get to sound right.. at 14(dia)x16(de) would probably be harder. On my 14x14, I had to tune the reso really high to get a good low and full sound out of it.

Re: losing volume without losing chops.

i'm learning to play quietly (i'm used to playing at a moderate volume) since I get home at 8PM and at times want to practice till 10pm (but don't want to bother my neighbors).

Some things I...

Re: floor tom tuning

tighten the reso head. I have my reso heads pretty tight, always. gives a nice low sound that bounces back quick.

Anyway, I sort of have that same prob with my G2 clear. The stock heads are more...

Re: New Stuff from Gretsch

Wow, I like the new finish. I wish I could exchange my catalina maple with that one. :D

Beats me too why sticks costs a lot. They should be $2 a pair, max.

Re: Floor Toms, why do we love them so?

I have two racks, one floor (and another floor which I haven't setup yet).

The two racks does feel somewhat awkward, or rather, the ride cymbal placing feels awkward since it should be where the...

Re: The importance of rimshots

been playing basic 4 beat for hours and i'm getting the hang of doing rim shots with my left hand. And they sound pretty even. Rim shots on the 10" tom sounds lovely! Man, i'm loving my kit more...
