Re: Gretsch - Sonor - Ludwig : which is the fattest groove kit?

I found out that Starclassic maple and bubinga offer 13x6 snares, a size difficult to find and one which appeals to me. How are these drums?

Drum sets with 20" bass

I'm looking for drum sets with 20" bass, sold as a package (no custom sets). With 10 or 12" toms and a 14" floor tom with legs.

Re: Gretsch - Sonor - Ludwig : which is the fattest groove kit?

I've just bought an entire new set of cymbals and I think they're a better investment than any shell set. I'm also very happy with my 13" brass snare so for now I'm set.

However, I'm leaning...

Re: Gretsch - Sonor - Ludwig : which is the fattest groove kit?

Sonor used to offer heavy shells but s classix and delite are so thin. I can't imagine them sounding fat. Bright and ringy comes to mind, not low and fat.

Re: Gretsch - Sonor - Ludwig : which is the fattest groove kit?

I knew I had to get the blackhawk!

With the right heads and the right specs, it will sound as good as any drum.

I'm looking for the fullest and fattest sounding kit with the most balls. No flimsy kits for me! Groove kit 10/14/20 with 13 snare. This is my selection so far:

- Gretsch renown
- Gretsch new...

Re: Why are VINTAGE drums so valued

The hardware improved but the shell design deteriorated.

Were the 3 ply shells as thick as 6 ply shells or half the thickness?

Now the most important question: if you do want new shells...

Re: Value this kit: 1st gen. Sonor S class

Despite the lacking tone, manufacturers keep putting out thin shells and people go around buying these inferior sounding drums. Go figure.

Re: Maple Vs Birch

Coated vs clear head

Wood vs nylon tip

Matt vs gloss finish

. . .

Any of those differences is bigger than maple vs birch shell.

Re: Sabian or Zildjian Symbols

The only Zildjians that appeal to me are K custom dark ride, K light hats, A custom crash, Armand ride/hats.

Sabian I've only played HHX and these are definitely better than anything Zildjian I...

Re: Question about Tinnitus

Noise cancelling headphones produce a hissing noise which is as damaging as the noise they block out!
What you need are custom earplugs which block out all frequencies equally.

You must be...

Re: New Sonor S-Classix

Where in Belgium did you order it and how much did you spend?

Why you needed a 2nd set is beyond me. Isn't the yellow one an S class pro or delite? I don't remember having seen s classix in that...

Re: Why are VINTAGE drums so valued

OK thanks, but do you really think vintage sounds better than a new drumset?

Take the recording custom - absolute analogy. Why do some people prefer the old RC over a new absolute? Both seem to...

Why are VINTAGE drums so valued

Is it sentiment that makes people hunt these drums or do the shells have superior design? What is superior about them? If they are in fact superior, then modern drums must be mediocre at best,...

Re: Custom drum builders in Europe

I know but I'm not paying 5K for a 4 piece. Sorry but that's insane. For that amount you can amplify any kit and get studio quality. Or you can buy a decent car 2nd hand.

So I should get a...

Re: Value this kit: 1st gen. Sonor S class

The seller said the same thing. Why is that? He hints that the newer models are made in China and only finished in Germany. I don't know if that's true.

I can order wood hoops in natural finish...

If a drumset is the result of material cost...
