Re: bass drum depth

Is that really a thing?

Personally don't care for the extended bass drums. I like the tone of a shallow bass and I much prefer the look. Something just unsettlingly phallic about the Van...

Re: Contrats To Bermuda!

Not trying to be funny but I really didn't know Weird Al was as popular as he is. Since the album came out I have seen his videos posted all over my FB wall.

Great job John. I really dig the...

Now THAT is how you do it right there.

Re: The matching snare

Don't go to the dark place Matt! It'll all be ok. We're all still friends here.

Look at the Monkey, look at the silly monkey playing the drums.

Re: The matching snare

Or what if you're just a gear fiend with limited space? I have 2 kits, that is all that I need for what I play but I love snares. I love switching them out and trying different sounds with them.

Re: Name that rhythm

I have always called that a Columbia rhythm. The "Broken triplet" as I call it (8th notes with a rest on the 'uh') are very popular in Cumbia, Not sure if it is played quite that way though...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Just putting out the feelers here...

13" Gretsch Renown Maple tom in Ruby Sparkle fade finish.

Missing the suspension mount.

Thinking $150+shipping. I can snap some pictures if interested.

Re: Best Maple Drumkit around $1000

Can we please stop with this BEST nonsence. They're all great in that price range. Unless you're paying for some shady deal you're not going to get a bad kit for $1k.

How about you tell us the...

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

I love the look of those red acrylic shells. I have really been wanting to check out a set of acrylics. I wonder what the street price of these is going to be...

Re: The matching snare

Larry, I remember seeing a drum company that made drums out of brass shells in an old Modern Drummer magazine. They looked like Worldmax shells. Haven't seen anything else on them since.

I'd love...

Re: Do you think it's time for your favorite drummer to retire?

On a more positive note: I thought of Judas Priest. They went with Scott Travis, who is an absolute machine, in 90' for the Painkiller album and revitalized their whole sound. I have seen them live 3...

Sounds great! I'll PM you.

Do I see another snare makeover thread on our near future?

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

Not my seat, I'm still on the local, sleezy bar gig level so I guess the average gorilla rock drummer can't do the half-assed swing stuff that I play.

I did once have this hippy band try to poach...

Re: The matching snare

Larry, if you're getting rid of stuff I'll take em. I want to try your experiment of putting lacquer on the inside of a cheap snare.

I have a matte black birch Drumcraft kit and a matte black...

Hah! Good catch Li. Dre, google a picture of a SC bass drum and the wing screw is pointed toward the batter head.

Re: Restoring WFL 15x8 Snare - need advice on snare wires

I like Puresound, personal preference.

Looks like your only option with Puresound is going to be the 20 strand Customs. Sad, I do wish they offered their Concert snare wires in a 15". Some older...

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

First lets isolate the problem. Is the clutch falling on you? Is the spring in the hihat pedal failing? Is the pedal connected to the hihat stand failing?

Re: Cutting down drums

I'm confused Dre, did you re-drill for the tom mount? If you didn't change that at all then Bill's suggestion should work just fine.

Wonderful looking drum. I too play a Yamaha kit with a sliced...

Re: East Coast get together, 8/9/14 planning stages

Sorry to hear that Larry.

I'm wondering if us Phoenix drummers could get a thing together. We could all meet as someone's house for a BBQ, bring our kits and have a jam.

Re: My P-86 does NOT fit in my Supra!

Those holes are threaded, you would need to drill then tap the holes out for a larger set of screws.

Try lining up the strainer and mark where the new holes would be with a marker. Then snap a...

Re: Do you ever stand back from your drums...

My red kit is set up in the back room of my house, I walk by it on my way to the bathroom frequently or if I'm letting the dogs out.

Sometimes I'll just stop and gaze at my kit and smile. Quite a...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Check this site out, explains the history of Ludwig's badges.

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_badges.html

What you have there is a Blue and Olive badge, sometime referred to as a B/O.

Re: Trimmed down kits

I miss playing Rockabilly. I got away with playing a kit with a single floor tom. I don't feel that it made me ore creative but it was nice to carry less stuff to a gig.

Re: Trimmed down kits

I think he is actually right on it. Your premise is that a deliberate limitation of quantity of equipment results in or displays more creativity in a player.

So is an artist who just does sketches...
