Re: Do you think it's time for your favorite drummer to retire?

Yes are also one of my favourite bands.

Probably the band, in my life, I have listened to most of all.

I stopped going to see them live when Benoid David was singing. Went to see them in...

Re: Another Band Drama Thread

Good God man you've nailed it.

I think one of the joys of playing drums is that you can play with one eye on something else. Be that a pretty girl in the audience, or a fight kicking off at the...

Re: Another Band Drama Thread

Personally I'd tell them that they're talking shit and if they continued to do it I'd leave the band.

Bands aren't, in my humble opinion, supposed to implode because of a bit of outside criticism....

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

This stopped happening on my Hi Hat stand when I purchased a decent locking hi hat clutch.

Tommy Ramone...RIP

Sad news to start the day.

Gig tonight. We will open with Blitzkrieg Bop I think.

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Most amateur musicians/unsigned bands don't see it as exploitation....hence it's become almost unrestrained exploitation.

It's pandemic here.

The entire thing is a disgrace and yup, I'm...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

You're absolutely 100% right though in regard to everything you've said.

The overwhelming number of gigs, not even expenses are covered. Bands are lucky even to get a few free drinks.

I won't...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

One of the most common gigs these days (at least in my vicinity).

And the latest....punk v metal nights. Venues seem to love those.

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

To be honest, I'm not really interested anymore in them, or the event.

Just pointing out that I'm not accusing them of anything beyond acting like asshats.

Lest a Solicitors letter arrive...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Just in the sake of clarity.....it may well be that all proceeds from the event in question here is going to charity.

Just saying.

My issue is their wanky behaviour with me and my band. There...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

It's largely all been tried.

There are so many bands....and so many will nip in and play for free.

So the principled bands can sit at home watching TV thinking "that taught em"....meanwhile...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

I readily accept that I can't back this statement up, but I'd say 99% of venues, and musicians, at anything like the level we are playing out at, are not aware/don't operate this.

We do know what...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Similar thing going on over here with an advert for Clash of Clans. It's quite comical. Kids now saying to their parents, or asking on Facebook, "hey who is this song by and where can I get the...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

It can get worse than that mate...

WE organised a charity gig last year and the venue (who made an absolute fortune in bar sales...just from me) held out on some of the gate money they'd agreed to...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Difficult one. They see playing a free gig no different in terms of promoting our band, and our album, than handing out free CD's at gigs.

I can understand their point of view, and I agree with...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Thanks for everyone's input on this guys. Sort of endorsed most of my thoughts.

Things are sort of deteriorating now, as the venue has offered us an alternative slot on this coming Friday. I guess...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Most bands in the UK would never gig...seriously. It's beyond belief these days. I bet 95% of UK gigs for unsigned bands are unpaid. We've actually signed ourself to our own independent label and...

None whatsoever.

And as one of the lads pointed out yesterday we don't actually think they were ever going to let us know about the change....it just changed on the Facebook running order.

Really wanky behaviour....

I enjoy playing drums, and I absolutely love the band thing, and the gig experience.

But, if I live to be 200, I don't think I'll ever understand some of the treatment I, and my band, have been...

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

I believe they were fairly recently discontinued. I saw a couple of rave reviews, then spotted one on Ebay going at a very fair price and took the plunge.

Care of Total Drum Sets.com

We played Beatles covers

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

Bought a Paiste 2002 22" China
It weighed more than the Titanic and when I hit it went "KLUNKPSHHHHHHHCLANGKLINK"

Awful...just awful....rehearsed once and sold.

Re: The best reasons to become a drummer?

For me, to play in a band.

If my band folded, I'd sell up.
