Re: Do you tend to pulse the quarter when rolling or aim for consistency?

To be able to play your rudiments to sound exactly the same on each hit is a great thing. You want to be able to have that control. But of course, there are times when accenting is called for. It...

Re: New Drummer Technical Question on Learning

I wouldn't start doing any drills yet. Just do what the instructor says. I'm saying this because if you start doing drills, your technique will most likely be wrong, and your instructor will show you...

Re: How much do lyrics matter to you?

I agree with this. I agree that knowing the lyrics can only help, and wouldn't hurt the drumming in any way. I wasn't defending NOT listening to lyrics, what i was going against was the notion (at...

Re: How much do lyrics matter to you?

Please explain why there is a difference. I see none. It sounds to me like you're basically saying that if you don't pay attention to the lyrics of a song, you're ignorant. So then tell me why im not...

Re: How much do lyrics matter to you?

If lyrics make or break whether you're enjoying a band or not, I might suggest getting into poetry. I don't know about you, but i can easily be taken on a musical journey from listening to something...

How much do lyrics matter to you?

I've come to realize this over a period of time, but when i listen to (most) music, I don't really care about the lyrics.. For me, the vocalist is another instrument just like the rest of the band....

Re: Favorite band based on technological era?

I love Celebration day. If they wanted, they definitely could've found a drummer that plays John Bonham stuff note-for-note. But that wasn't the point. Plant, Page, and Jones didn't play their old...

Re: The feel of your hi hats-

I use 14'' A customs. I generally like the feel of them. I prefer light/thin hi-hats in general, they feel better and more responsive and they give you a nice sexy bark.

Re: I got scammed. (WARNING: RANT AHEAD)

That's really ridiculous.. I try to stay away from any advertisement on craigslist wanting to ship an item. Craigslist isn't exactly monitored (like the bay), it's really just like being at the flea...

Re: Using the same fills...

Is it literally the same fill? Because everyone has a few fills that they tend to use, it's kinda like your weapon of choice. But you should definitely not constantly use the same fill. What i do is...

Re: Where can I hear great drumming?

Anything Led Zeppelin. The drumming is not too complex for the untrained ear and it just sounds good. Listen to "Rock and Roll", among others. But all the drummers everyone else stated are top notch...

Re: Criticize my technique #2 @mattsmith

There are many useful ways and reasons to accent paradiddles, but you should be able to play them proficiently without accenting also. Just saying.

Re: Criticize my technique #2 @mattsmith

You're doubles are fairly smooth, one thing on your paradiddles though: Unless you're doing it for a specific purpose on the kit, don't accent the "first" hit. Make it sound nice and even throughout....

Re: Playing for fun, what do you do?

I do what Mary said. I mostly do play for fun, that's why I play the drums. Ill always start by loosening up a bit and practicing some rudiments, but from there its either i play along to music or...
