Re: Health of Dennis Chambers

Yeah, the ongoing discussion is in another thread:

Doesn't seem to be any updates for a few days now, hopefully he's still doing better.

Re: What drummers have marched?

I know Ray Luzier played snare in a marching band, but I can't think of any others that I know of.

I played in a marching band for many years in my youth, but I played the baritone horn :-)

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

First thing that came to my mind is that he has a drop clutch and doesn't realise it. But I'm most likely wrong.

Re: Why is it you never see threads saying....

Part of it might be that people who ask about whether or not to get a certain kit will generally be guys who are making the leap from a starter kit to an intermediate (or even pro) one.

Since...

Re: Cajon players - rock back or hunch over?

On a completely unrelated note: Are you in a band with your twin brother?

Re: Spent about 45 min playing a Cajon today

Yeah man, cajons can hurt! I had the same problem when rehearsing with a cajon for an unplugged show we did a few months back. I ended up in so much pain and with so many bruises that I bought myself...

Re: Can't figure out this bass drum pattern

Yup, a pretty standard punk beat, the kick is played on 1 and on the & of 2 and the & of 4. The tempo and style means that it's probably not played with absolute metronomic accuracy, which can give...

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

I play a Mapex Saturn. I love it. Is it somehow objectively better than other brands? Probably not.

Re: Do you play the drum part exactly the same each night?

Yeah, basic charts are essential when I'm learning new songs. I can read notation, but I'm not anywhere good enough to sight read, so I have my own chart system that just outlines grooves, number of...

Re: Drumming without a drumkit!

Hey, that's my post. Cool to see it inspires others :-)

The problem that I see with using a "real" kick pedal is that the drive link will obscure the view of the sensor. In addition, you'll also...

Re: Setting up left-handed

I've tried it a few times, but never actually sat down to try and practise it.

I quickly noticed that I could play a reasonably basic beat with my hands and my left foot. However, my right foot...

Re: In jazz, what's a fill and what's just comping ?

I guess a better question is: Why do you need to tell which is which? As long as it fits musically, why classify it as one or the other.

Re: Do you play the drum part exactly the same each night?

I think he meant that if his job is specifically to play a part as it's been written, that's what he'll do.

Re: Do you play the drum part exactly the same each night?

When a song is still fresh, I tend to try different grooves and fills and play what I think feels right to me then and there.

However, once I've played a song over a longer period of time, or I've...

Re: Just curious -----------

I see. I guess the wording led me to believe I was supposed to come up with something special.

I might make a pass at this if I come up with something cool :-)

Re: Just curious -----------

Ah, that explains it, and I do actually remember glancing at that a while back and dismissing it completely when seeing it was a playing contest.

For me, I'm definitely in category 3 on this one....

I can't remember seeing a competition thread from you lately, and looking back through your thread history I can't find it now either... Where exactly did you post it?

Re: Best online-shop in Europe for drums?

Various stores have different shipping restrictions. Thomann.de and Musicstore.de are the only ones I know that ship all over Europe and have pretty decent prices, but there might be others that are...

Re: It's official,,Gregg Bissonette leaves Mapex

Gregg signed on with Mapex when they were a pretty small company compared to the giants (Tama, Pearl, etc); nowhere near the well-established name they are now.

I guess he likes supporting the...

Re: Caroline Corr

There might be plenty of studio trickery that we don't know about, but there's no denying that they can actually play and sing. Look up any of their performances from talkshows (where they have no...

Re: Drumming without a drumkit!

Just tried ordering from Amazon UK, but they won't ship Aerodrums to Norway. Is there another way I can get hold of it?

edit: Posted about it in the official Aerodrums forums as well; hopefully I...

Re: How Does Your Bass Drum Sit?

I have my kick parallell to the ground. It's not actually resting on the front hoop though; I'm guessing the hoop is 5-10 mm off the ground (I guess that's about 1/4 inch in those silly medieval...

Re: Drumming without a drumkit!

I'm getting one of these for sure! E-kits make too much noise for me to play around the house when my SO is at home, and on top of that I just love the gadget factor and social appeal of this thing.
