Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

I found (most) of this year's Grammys pretty entertaining actually... I thought Imagine Dragons' performance was terrible, just a man poorly oversinging/shouting into a microphone while everyone else...

Re: An attempt at a policy change here

I respect Andy's decision (and genuinely don't believe Shemp should be banned for having his own opinion, much as I strongly disagree with it) but I'm honestly really bothered that Andy's...

Re: New! Official Guru In-Tense snare comparison video :)

If you want to get really picky about the semantics then yes, I suppose. I didn't mean just shell construction, I meant overall. The general (very general) ideas have all come before it, but the...

Re: New! Official Guru In-Tense snare comparison video :)

You're simply misunderstanding the goal here, which is why you're completely off-base... their goal is to make the best drums there are for the people who want them, all of whom are aware of the...

Re: New! Official Guru In-Tense snare comparison video :)

That's about as kind a deconstruction as you can lay down on someone like that, well stated and without being malicious.

I think the quality of the products speak for themselves and anyone who has...

Re: New! Official Guru In-Tense snare comparison video :)

For the time being (or until the next video) you could just have the specs in Youtube annotations, people can turn those off if they find them distracting as well.

I only had a moment to listen to...

Re: Guru unboxing video

I haven't even heard them and I'm green with envy. WHY MUST I BE A POOR COLLEGE STUDENT?

Anyways, looking forward to seeing a video of these beauties set up and played... I've yet to hear anything...

Re: kills/amuses me what people ask for drum stuff on ebay

1200 made me snicker especially after I read the cymbal lineup... Then I finished out his description where he asked for TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS and suddenly it was no longer funny, just...

Re: The Guru Sessions- official videos

Good god how enormous these drums sound though they're not big in size. That 14" tom being tuned a bit too low for the mic situation they're in? When it gets played near that 12" and you can just...

Re: design for a bass dampening system

To make the feel of the bass drum more "dead" (something I prefer too, and have no idea why) rather than one with high rebound is simply to change your tuning. I think it was in a Bob Gatzen video...

Re: Slingerland Price Check!

Looks like you're trying to use links to something inside an email... that's all secure stuff and Google would never let that happen for security reasons.

Upload the pictures elsewhere, either on...

Re: Famous drummers you have met

While I'd hope for this to change at some point, at the moment the only one I've ever had the pleasure of MEETING before/during/after a show at all would be Ryan Van Poederooyen

Re: Help with insane time signature?

Yeah... Just because there's some downtuned (and even baritone) guitar in the music doesn't even make it close to that.

I'm glad you posted that video link because now I feel awful for not mentioning Dirk.

Re: Spicing up metal drumming

Aside from the obvious "listen to other music as well" that's already been suggested, I have a few drummers I'll most definitely suggest listening to who always keep things interesting even if...

Re: How does gravity affect drum tone

If I had to guess, I would assume everything would be more focused and muted and wouldn't resonate as long if we were talking about a higher gravitational pull. I haven't worked with vibrations just...

Re: Sonor ProLites just unpacked!

Good god those are gorgeous. My dream finish and the only thing I would change in the sizes are the depths on the bass drum and 12" tom.

Awesome post!

Re: Drum Practice (Speed, Endurance) And Weightlifting

I think the idea is that if you bulk up, rather than make longer and leaner muscles built more for endurance and speed, that it can be a detriment. But if you make working on this endurance and speed...
