Re: So you're going to a band audition...

THis is a good point. Very good point.

We drummers can play any kit but cymbals are what tells the tale of what kind of drummer/person a drummer is and the way someone describes them, what they...

Re: Always out of breath, need to get my stamina up somehow.

Sounds like you need to stop smoking and go exercise. Sounds crazy.

Do you breathe while playing? You should be breathing normally as you play- pay attention to it and see what you are...

Re: Simon Phillips talks 'bout open handed, dynamics, big sound and recording :)

Anyone know what ride he was playing in the dynamics video? (2nd link) I like it. Watched these all 3x. His open handed playing is amazing.

Re: Wood snares---woddy sound. Help

Not so focused on the cost as much as the sound. Just want that woody "tock" sound and something that will be sensitive and not sound awful when tuned up a bit. Good throwoff would be nice too....

Re: how to use Stick Control

My old teacher was a glutton for punishment... he could play anything in that book and continued to blow my mind with it for about a year and then one day he

turned it upside down on the music...

Re: Eighth Note Triplets vs Eighth Note Cymbal Pattern

To me, this is the most useful mix of time sigs/feels (3 over 2). Very useful chart and I would be a better drummer if I could play it all seamlessly. Thx!

Re: Most important lessons for beginners

1. I am 6 years in and wish my time was tighter. Should have spent more time on the pad with the metronome.

I think if you work the pad and play along to whatever music you like the rest will...

Re: Shoes and Gloves

If Carter Beufort can wear a wet suit shirt and what look like golf gloves and play then they are ok with me. Chew bum and put on your perma grin for the full effect.

I focused on my shoes quite...

Re: New band - very loud drummer - question

Have the other guy play loud as hell while the loud guy listens- he should be able to see the error of his ways. I was hard hitter too and it went away with some band experience. Get him some hot...

Re: How far do you take air drumming in your car?

Always have a stick- just one though for safety. Often play time on my thigh which is good excercise since there is no rebound. Easy to drop it and steer if need be too.

Re: Possibly one of the best videos I've ever seen...

This video looks to me like it was sped up a bit. Watch the bass player later on. Just a little too jumpy to be natural.

Nasty as hell drumming either way even if they did add 10 bpm to it.
