Re: Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

Hmmm

Ludwig kit (probably not a press release) with DW hardware??

Who could be using or playing such a (prototype?) kit?

These would surpass my desire for CM and Legacy instantly. Mahogany...

Re: What a bummer :-(

I had a similar thing happen on an Ayotte tom. He listed it 10X8 and when I got it, I put it up to my existing 12X8 and was like...Uh Oh Spaghettios-10X9!

Seller was cool about the refund and I...

Re: SKF Blog: A Great Drum Photo is Still Worth 1,000 Words

I'm always amazed by Buddy's poor posture.

The ads that I loved were the 80's Ludwig and Sabian ads, sometimes with dozens of their respective artists in them. Often, you could get the poster for...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

Having read through this, it seems getting 'fired' isn't such a bad thing. Let me briefly add my recent story.

Three years ago, I was approached by my ex-bass player to form a one-off benefit gig...

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

I use DrumArt.com and you can get cling-ons that peel off. Never tried those but would be very easy to slap on.

I play in two bands but one plays only about 5 times a year. In those cases, I find...

Rule number one: Everything gets packed up and taken home.

Re: Good and bad customer service.

I tend to shop locally or online for certain things.

My most recent purchase at Stage Drop.com was excellent. Although the wrong size riser section was sent, fast follow-up, a return auth and the...

Re: Incredible funk/fusion chops and licks in simple R&B Songs

I am a funky drummer trapped in a rock band. Here's what I do and my approach.

I will take songs like What I Got from Sublime and funk them up. BUT, not the whole time. I will build it in...

Re: Drumming without shoes - caution

I play in socks because I like to slide my feet all over the pedals.

The worst incident was last summer at a wedding gig. I was really getting into my Stevie Wonder breakdown piece, went for a big...

Re: 2003 DW Collectors Series - Broken Glass finish

That's white marine pearl. And yes, the May is considered a value-added accessory. A pricey one for sure but a sweet set up if you gig regularly.

Oh, and ask for the date inside the shell. That...

Re: Rediculously Massive Drum Kits

I've been guilty of this in the past. Now, a 4 or 5 piece is just right.

Re: comparing two new sets, Ludwig or DW?

The only thing I don't like about you Ludwig spec is the lack of Atlas mounts. Seems like all the hardware is old-school, which is cool, but specing mounts might sway me towards the Luddies even...

Re: Gigging Kit Help?

All of the kits you listed, I think any of them will suit your purpose. Tama Silverstar is another idea too. I would be happy with any of them. Gretsch Catalina is a solid choice. The Ludwig Accent...

Re: Tempo comfort zones

On a side note brought up earlier:

I was always told you stick to the tempo at start. So, if the guitar player comes in first and fast, I have to get up to his speed and lock it down for the...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Two things

A used Wuhan 18" china for $20. Sounds terrible. Perfect

Just order that foam stick holder that mounts on top of the bass drum, between two lugs under the tension rods. Holds 4...

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

I would say I strive for about 70% accuracy. Get the tempo, beat(s), major fills, and it's good to go. There are very few songs we do that require exacting parts i.e. no Rush.

I learn about 4-5...

Re: 9X13 floor tom? Sensible?

Yeah, this drum would cost too much, not offer much in terms of playing (except for some U2) and probably be awkward. I'm not short (6'2") but I set up pretty low. This 9" depth could be just a bit...

9X13 floor tom? Sensible?

I've been hunting for a 14X14 for my Keystone kit to no avail. The finish is discontinued. I could buy a brand new one for $400 and re-wrap it but for that cost, I'm not really in love with it.

Re: Cajon pedal

I recently got into cajon for acoustic gigs with my band and I picked up a Gibraltar pedal for $75 from Guitar Center.

It works great for what it is. The bracket doesn't want to stay on,...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

That was a 2 up and 2 down kit. Ideal. I added the 14X14 and 9X13 later (which was cut down) to the original 20X22, 8X12, and 16X16.

Never missed the 10 with that set up. Sucks about the deal but...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

Great drums. You'll be happy.

20X22 is a cool size. I never had an issue with playing it. Here's my final version of that kit before I sold it.

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

I had a basement room built when building my former house. Offset 2X6 studs room-within-a-room style. The key was limp mass vinyl. I used 3 giant rolls of the stuff to weave between the stud. Filled...

Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

Usually some kind of funk beat. Think a funkified version of Walk this Way. And some linear fills with it. Twenty seconds is enough.
