Re: Do Cover Bands 'Simplify' Songs?

I've heard very few famous bands play their own tunes exactly how they were recorded. So I don't expect covers bands to play them the same either.

Re: Tempo Ref

Morrissey would issue some kind of a Fahtwah (sent by fax?) on you for spelling his name incorrectly !

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

I play drums in a band. If the band folded, the drums would be sold within days.

But, the joy of being human beings with independent thought is people can do what the hell they like and if they...

Re: On drums...Stewart Copeland!

It was really good. Even my wife enjoyed it.
When it showed the clip of Buddy Rich she said "is that sped up"....nope. Then "can you do that"....nope.

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

Harsh (even though more than likely true). They may just be inexperienced and need to learn.

Re: YOUR BETTER AT BECAUSE OF DRUMS

More from being in bands, rather than drums as such. But I'm definitely more diplomatic, and definitely handle myself better socially.

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

It's a pyrrhic victory though to be proven right, and for everything to sound and feel shite do you not think ?

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

Personally, and for the record I don't know shit. But if your band, as a unit, thinks songs are dragging and lack energy at the speed being properly played at. Then, even though you are in the right,...

Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

No laces in his boots. Interesting the stuff you notice when one's studying other drummers :)

Re: struggling to get through a song

<applause from Lancashire>

Too right. Make them your own. People can listen to a record if they want to hear it how the Clash played it on vinyl.

Re: struggling to get through a song

Forgive me. I don't recall there being hats during the chorus. Thought it was just bass and double strike on the snare ?

It's probably me. When I play it it's kick and snare and then for the...

Re: struggling to get through a song

The BPM may not increase but the drumming definitely gets busier. When I originally learnt this I found it helped by putting kick in during the transition from verse to chorus. I cannot write music...

Re: struggling to get through a song

The tempo in Should I Stay or Should I Go (by the Clash right?) speeds up for the chorus doesn't it ?

Edit. No it doesn't. You're correct of course.

Re: Not having fun playing

I love your attitude and it puts me totally in mind of a great friend of mine who sings in a metal band up here in the North called CAIN. We do a lot of gig swapping. Bring some metal to the punk...

Re: Band names?

You got it.

My band (Mutha Luvin Chimps) were invited to play a completely innapropriate gig a couple of years back at a Conservative Club's Christmas Party. I can only presume the booking agent...

Re: Who has inspired the most to make people play drums?

The question of course isn't who inspired individuals but who the major inspirations are.

Gotta be Ringo. When I listened to Beatles as a kid, and had a passing interest in drums, he fomented the...
