Re: Hello

Good grief-the written word is such a weak tool often producing miscommunications. Maybe we should have like a communal Skype so talk to each other in real time so inflection and explanations can...

Re: LOUD brushes. How?

Funny saw this on FB talking about playing brushes-Sammy Davis jr. tearing up some percussion. He starts with sticks then brushes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USxvJFfKXrE

Re: LOUD brushes. How?

I really like the Steve Gadd brushes. I don't have a problem with brushes and drums being loud enough but I can't get crap for sound with brushes on cymbals-hi hats or ride. I'll flip it and use the...

Re: Hello

Welcome back Ole timer. Dang Duncan glad to see you back-sounds like you've been busy with life-which is all good. So 15 years-you got me beat by 3 years on here. I guess we've all grown older, but...

Re: I forgot how loud drums are ! ! ! ! ! !

Drums are loud but electric guitars usually even louder. Without my hearing aids I can't hear a conversation but I can hear music-electric guitars always cut louder than drums.

Re: Help a Dad out buying used set for son.

I couldn't agree more with these sentiments. Great end to a thread. That kit will last him a long time. I love all your efforts to surprise him-kudos to job well done. And this thread inspirational...

Re: Self-Doubt

Yep the video doesn't lie is so true. Makes me believe all drummers should learn wearing headphones with a detection device some distance away-so you only hear what the audience hears. Listening and...

Re: This is why i like jazz...

ROFL-sounds like some of my diatribes on here. Drink coffee, watch tv, free-thought vomit on here-then surprise myself with what I've said (very entertaining-at least for me I crack me up ;) It is...

Re: Philosophical Question

I'd choose "worst' to. I like playing with better of anything-because they challenge me to be better. I love a challenge. The last band I met up on Bandmix I was the better (course that just...

Re: Crossroads

Maybe you'll strike gold with some band that checks all the boxes. Speaking of gold prospecting did you see the "Sisters Brothers". John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed are in...

Re: Cramping problems. Solution?

Frosticies I had the same issue for about two or three years-I think longer. I think it initially got aggravated moving stacking stones and then drumming finished it off. It did mysteriously just...

Re: Broke my wrist. Any tips?

Well everyone has given you all the good advice. With all the advances in prosthetics I'd chop off that arm and get a cyborg arm that will perform supernatural feats-you'll be the envy of every...

Re: Is it just me?

Seems like I remember reading in a rudiment snare book I had when I was ten (1965) that "proper snare etiquette" (probably a real good reason why but I don't remember) was to release the snares....

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

I've noted a difference in my playing when my hearing aids are set normal so really the music and drums too loud-so I tend to play more shy, lower stick heights and quieter. Seems to translate to...

Re: Best Budget Bop Kit?

Looks like my original Sonor Safari-they really are a great kit (though mine sits in a corner collecting dust). I love the punchy lil kick- it's a cannon, and the toms sing. The snare is mehh but Ok...

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

I wouldn't worry about-in fact it maybe a talking point or draw interest being different. What's the fun of having a bunch of drum kits or orphan drums if you can Franken-morph them sometimes....

Re: Good drums shops in Las Vegas?

Nice going to see your daughter-tell her "Hi" from all of us. I'd be like you Darth looking for something other than gambling. I found this and some might be worthy of investigating (man after...

Re: Detuned toms

I agree with Larry and others-playing live you need to tune them up high to cut though. I'd say the range is about 4 foot for low tuned toms-that's about what my single mic Zoom can pick up-past that...

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

Because my left ear has a hole in my eardrum and the outer ear canal too large for normal ear plugs I use those malleable wax ear plugs for swimming. I note they block the sound too-but not...

Re: A Lesser Kit For Gigging?

I guess one way of looking at it is if you were going on a date would you wear your best suite or coveralls? Just kidding. I've noted that too James-inflated prices for used gear. I don't know if...

Awesome! Glad to see you back in the saddle. It is fun and Johnny Winter-I was just listening to him last week. Hot dang he's on fire-I'd forgotten how good he was. Rock on my friend.

Wow Larry I don't blame you for quitting-and you still have the one gig. I'd let it ride and see what opportunities good fortune may have coming your way. You're a great drummer and plenty of...

Re: What is Classic Rock?

I'm starting a "Classic Rock" (Bee-Gee) Gibbs Brothers tribute band-all singing falsetto wearing spandex with one of them glitter balls over head. LOL Actually the more I think their pre-disco was...

Re: Retirement Drumming

Luck and genetics in aging. Even if you exercise, eat right, etc you genetically can be predisposed for higher risk of cancers, hearth disease, orthopedic issues, cognitive issues, etc. Though I have...
