Re: The natural meter challenge!

That was highly entertaining Jim!!!!!! I watched the whole thing smiling and laughing the whole time.

Re: Gigs that Require 1099 - Questions

Including a 1099 in Turbo Tax is not a big deal. It is just like another W2 with less data to input. If it were me and it were only a handful of gigs that work that way this is how I would do it.

Re: do i need a hi hat mic?

So I am no expert and am trying to figure out how to best mic my drums for live gigs. I play in a bar cover band and most places are not real large, but most are big enough that some micing is needed...

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

I posted this in another thread where GD talked about the show but not sure you'd see it Jon.

Bermuda looks like you'll be visiting St. Louis?

Re: Help with my son's drumming

Unless he wants to be a professional I would not try to hold him to a particular practice time and certainly not 90 minutes a day. During school week there simply is not 90 minutes a day unless he...

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

I don't really get or like all these new hard genres that feature double bass blast beats. I saw a metal song drum cover and the guy was really only playing 1/4s with his hands. Really clean blasts...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

Ultimately it is up to you. I know a lot of players that got burned out on cover bands and do originals. But around here at least, that means a one hour set with little or no money. I am not in it...

Re: Beginner and older...

Welcome and good luck. As others have stated get a good teacher at least for the beginning. You need a good grip and stroke so you don't cause injuries. This is the sole reason I do not teach. I fear...

Re: Is this a vintage 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite?

Not an expert on these snares but did some chrome work many years ago. It looks to me like someone shot blasted the chrome away.

Re: Playing with people standing behind you

Interesting concept Jim. I actually thought about how clumsy it looks when coming to an end of a song, on a smallish stage, the band members all face away from the audience to get a cue from me....

Re: The official, "Your services are no longer required" thread

It never feels good to be asked to stop doing something. Feels like you are not valued. But in all my years my biggest improvements in life have come from dark moments. You will come out of it fine...

Re: Great car for a drummer

I have traveled to a good number of countries in Europe and a few in Asia and whenever I get back to the states there are a number of things that I notice for a while. Large cars is one of them....

Re: Playing with people standing behind you

Recently played an outdoor gig and the coordinator had us set up facing the wrong direction. It was in a pavilion next to a yacht club clubhouse. We face the clubhouse and the pool. So what's the...

Re: Another "first audition" thread

Since you have one more night I would pick the song you know the best and try to nail it. You also might chart the songs in a minimal way or at least the one you want to try to nail.

Here is my...

Andy you've extended that welcome before I feel the sincerity. Thank you for that.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

It is not so much the smile alone. I smile all the time. But it is a flirty very aware of the camera kind of smile, that does not make me think she just loves drumming but rather looks like she likes...

Re: BPM recall ability

I do what Jon does in terms of remembering the song. I also note the BPM on my cheat sheet set list which also has who starts the song similar to an earlier post, I think it was Jim. BTW Jim we play...

Re: For the love of toms.

Good god Andy how am I supposed to go play my kit now! As a weekend hack I doubt I will ever have a guru set but hope one day to sit behind a kit and experience it for myself. I agree the depth is...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

A couple of vids of Karen. Remember she was a pop artist so a lot of what you see is constrained by the genre. There are some pieces that show her skills tho.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

To me Meytal is a good drummer but does exploit her looks for the sake of fame. I guess part of it is that most girls her age wear clothes that show cleavage. But the constant smiling at the camera...

Re: Letting go vs focusing

Here is Stewart Copeland's thoughts on this (Play outside your horse! Love it!):

You once talked about "playing outside your instrument." When did you come up with this idea, and can you speak...
