Re: Looking for books on musical analysis

I think the main reason is that classical music has more interesting things to discuss. Jazz is also common in music theory books for the same reason. Everything ain't 4/4...and those styles have...

Re: Practice advice for professional musician switching to drums

Even if you have a drum-kit, get a drum-pad to practice on, it's a great help to nail those rudiments away from the kit. You can just bring your pad and sticks and go out in the park and practice or...

Re: News I had to share with you guys!

Not sure to be honest but it was my first reaction.
I actually don't know where my own limit is but I know I have one.
And your example about Tom Araya is great and I don't respect that man now....

Re: Tips on drumming and inspiration please.

It sounds to me that you need to start looking out for people to play with... I'm at the same spot and it's struggle to keep the head up when you have just reached the level of being able to play...

Re: What's the best pedal technique study?

I would say any technique that doesn't bury the beater is a good one and helpful for learning others.
I practice heel down in combination with constant release (heel toe without burying the beater).

Re: playing to loops and drumless recordings vs jamming

Can being without kit for a while be a good thing?

Right now I got a great v-drum kit in the bedroom and bang on it every day. I notice though that I often practice grooves and independent exercises using all my limbs when I'm at the kit instead of...

Re: What technique changed your drumming dramatically?

Learning traditional grip. The feel and limitation of what I could do with it on the toms smooth made me play more dynamically on the snare.

Re: Unable to use fills I've been practicing for hours in my band

In piano stuttering is common with beginners/intermediate that practice a segment without including one note extra into the new segment. That one note makes all the difference. In drums I think its...

Re: Unable to use fills I've been practicing for hours in my band

How do you practice your fills? You should try to practice a fill coming out of the groove and into the fill and back into the groove and back again to the fill. Repeat that many times without...

playing to loops and drumless recordings vs jamming

Can't find much people to jam with at the moment.

Can you learn the skill of playing well with others simply by playing a lot to loops and drumless recordings?

Re: Becoming a professional drummer?

Whatever you do, don't start a university-degree unrelated to drumming. That's the most stupid thing I could think of if you wanna be a drummer.
Unrelated as something that you can't use as a...

Re: Becoming a professional drummer?

I would recommend 5 hours a day for at least 6 years. If you can't practice 5 hours, decrease the daily practice and increase the years.
