Re: Metal drumming without double bass

Just to pick nits..

"if he did say what you said he did, show us."

isn't doing anything to stop spreading disinformation. The onus is just as much on you now to disprove the original quote.

Re: A Rethink on Recording...

Don't know about the C-4, but the Behringer C-2 pair are great little drum overhead mics. Best $50-60 on condensers you can spend.

Re: Who are some better "Metal" drummers?

I don't really subscribe to all those various genre sub-classifications (wtf is post-hardcore? it's all either rock or metal). Increasing complexity while increasing in musicianship, it's generally...

Re: How to become a 'local' drummer

I feel your pain. I grew up in Charles County. I keep tabs enough on SoMD still to know that performing arts are even worse than they used to be.

Check out My Brothers Place and HotLicks (both...

Re: U S Made HB Drums

Did the prices just recently skyrocket? I bought an 8" predator tom from the site a few months ago and it was $50ish shipped.

*edit* nm.. think I may have lucked out with the particular drum I...

Re: Homemade Bass Practice Pad???

Get a mesh bass drum head and put a pillow behind it. Same rebound, same attack feel, no noise.

If you happen to have a crappy or unused bass drum laying around, make yourself a separate practice...

Re: toms without resonant heads

I know this thread is old as hell.. but just came across it when I was searching and would rather add to this than start a new thread.

I just cut my resonant heads down to about 1-1.5" and for the...

Re: To Mic My Drums

Behringer 802 mixer
Behringer C2 condensers - 2 mics (they are sold as a pair, so 1 set)

Both are $50ish new.

Also, 2 XLR cables for the mics if you don't have any. Finally, you'll...

Re: pearl drummers forum registration issues

Cool yeah, just got an email a bit earlier this evening. Hope they get things worked out, nothings more annoying than recovering from getting your website hacked.

Re: pearl drummers forum registration issues

I know this is an old thread, but anyone know what's going on with the malware over at PDF? Google and Chrome are blocking access to the site because of security problems.

Re: Seat Height

I sit higher so my legs slope down a few degrees off of horizontal. I prefer heel down playing and as I'm 6'6" this higher height enables it.

Re: The Taming of a Bass Player

I'm a bass player. I don't know the dynamic of the group so I'm just going based on what I see in the video.

The bass player may be loud, but the vocal and the drums fill out what the bass is...

Re: The expensive drum stigma....

I'm a much more accomplished bassist than drummer (as bass.. classically trained, had a cab sponsorship, toured internationally, done the LA/NYC/rock-session thing, etc) and my favorite and go-to...

Re: Right-handed, yet left-footed.

I'm the exact same way. Lefty for everything except guitar and computer mouse.

I've got left foot bass drum, hi hat and ride on the right. Basically, it looks like a left handed, open hand setup.

Re: Do you play covers exactly like the originals?

When I first started playing, yes. It helped me build coordination and my ear. But now that I'm proficient, I never play note for note.. I could, but that's boring. I basically play how I would...

Re: Anyone here right-handed but left-footed? or vice versa?

I play like this. It basically looks like an open handed left hand setup.

I have my main hihat and ride on the right and main BD on the left. When I double bass I lead with the left foot (that's...

Re: Who still puts a pillow/blanket in the bass drum?

In the DIY/crafts section of Walmart I found some 16"x16"x1" seat cushion style urethane foam inserts. Lay them down flat on the inside of the shell (mine are 16"x22"), stick a few pieces of double...

Re: Open-Handed Drumming

Very cool.. this is exactly how I play. It's basically a left handed drum kit setup for open hand.

When I first started none of the usual set ups felt very natural or comfortable - wasn't a...
